I was in high school then. I read a lot, but not best sellers. I read mostly classics and things assigned for my school work.
I did not know about Bel Kaufman. I did read her book at the time.

...but by God, look how (relatively) grown-up that list is, compared to today. Could you imagine a book like *Herzog* topping today's list? (Though to be fair, I expect the new Harper Lee book to zoom to the top when it's released. So maybe there's some hope for us yet...:-/...)
