(3,409 posts)That looks very similar to the shingles outbreak I had several months ago. It was VERY painful. And the Technu won't help it if it is shingles. My dr gave me some anti-viral capsules that didn't help either. The only meds that made a difference were ibuprofen and topically applied Lanacaine. And it took 3 weeks to get over it. Good luck to you!

(72,300 posts)I do have shingles but it hasn't been active in years. I used a blend of essential oils on the shingles last time. I'm not willing to try the oils this time because the last spots were small. Not as discolored as these. I had a case of Poison Sumac that looked like this. It took steroids to treat 'em. I totally trust my doctor. But he is off today.
The two men who helped with a massive transplanting of old bulbs this past weekend are showing signs of ivy poisoning also.

(72,300 posts)Both Jon & Jeff have also broken out in little blisters so they have a ivy or some type of skin irritation that isn't shingles.
The dark area worries me. That looks deep, not like the raised blisters.

(426 posts)It works great when I get Kissing Bug bites in the summer. If nothing else it should relieve the intense itching.

(426 posts)I'm not sure if the extract is as effective as the sap. Maybe the gel would be as good. That would probably be available at any health food store.

(12,306 posts)The first thing I thought was that it was poison ivy or oak. If it is, a very helpful OTC product is Domeboro. It's soothing and helps dry it up.
Good luck.

(12,306 posts)It costs about 10 bucks for 12 packs. You dissolve the powder in water and put the compresses on the rash.
Good stuff.

(8,462 posts)That and a steroid pack were the only relief for a really bad case of ivy I had and just the spray for the lighter cases.

Oh well. The transplants are doing well.
I'll see the doctor tomorrow afternoon.
I'm thinking a round of steroids will probably the way he'll go.

I had welts/blisters exactly like that all over both legs for a week. Ew! Ouch! Itchy!

(72,300 posts)for the next 5 days. He was happy that I didn't wait until our scheduled appointment this Friday.
So, I'll see him again in 2 more days. I had blood work done on Monday. I wonder if it was compromised by the toxins that have been in my body since last Thursday or Friday.
