Never, never, never burn your bridges behind you, no matter how pissed off you may get.I got laid off about a month ago by the new manager at the bar, who told me he needed to "cut back"...
...well, he's gone, the owner is back in an active role, and I just got a call asking me to DJ a special event on June 15th.
I've missed the hell out of the DJ thing but the fact that I have been getting paid to photograph nude women once a week has taken my mind off of it.
There is a photo shoot scheduled for tomorrow and a second lady has expressed interest in participating. Never done a "2 girl shoot" before. Nit sure if this will happen tomorrow or next Tuesday.
It's been a wild-assed 8 months since I moved here. I'm sharing about 2% of the details with you and saving the other 98% for my book.

(10,575 posts)Yes. Guitarist Nile Rodgers was irate that he was turned away from the nightclub Studio 54, even though his bands hit song Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah) was playing within. So he wrote a song about it. The chorus: Aww, fuck off!
Im a former Black Panther, Rodgers told me, but Bernard [Edwards, Chic's bassist,] was religious. So they compromised. Freak off was watered down and lame, but when they changed it to Aww, freak out! they had a song that would spend five weeks at #1 in 1978, and establish Rodgers and Edwards as the preeminent producers of disco. Needless to say, Rodgers didnt have any trouble getting into Studio 54 after that.

It might turn into a steady or almost steady gig again.

It is actually illegal to quote prices on the phone or on the Web (customers have to go to the location and negotiate in person).
So all I can say is "not at those prices."

(30,885 posts)Rent is dirt cheap and there are no jobs.
I've been blessed, I have really beaten the odds. Through a combination of Web Design / Print Work / Photography through my own company, plus the DJ thing, plus this new gig, I've managed to pay the bills.
I came here because I have family here, I had a safety net under me. And as I said, I've busted my ass and have been very fortunate ("the harder I work, the luckier I get" ...
...but my advice to anyone thinking that they might come here and look for a job is "don't."
The town has limited fast food places (no Jack In The Box, Wendys or In 'n' Out, but there is a McDonald's, Panda Express, Taco Bell, Burger King and Sonic, plus Denny's, Subway, Papa John's and Dominos...scoring a job with one of them is a matter of persistence and luck).
There is also a WalMart and I've had friends tell me they went there looking for a job and came up dry.
Rents are dirt cheap, mainly because there is no work. There are a lot of manufactured homes...the ones you see split in half and rolling down the freeway on flat bed trucks...and more traditional homes. You can rent a house here for $500 a month. The nicer the house, the better the neighborhood, the higher the price. The $1500 and up places sit on the market for a while. They do have a couple of apartment complexes in town but they're not what you'd expect, more like Military barracks, just frigging awful.
