Once that first snip of seven inches of hair comes off the back?
No going back.
You might as well just gulp... then grin and go with it.
My hair in back was about the middle of my shoulder blades.
It is now at maybe the third vertebrae. With one top layer in back ending at the occipital bone.
I guess I will adjust. But my hair hasn't been this short in about....well let's not even go there.
Tried to take pics. Phone is acting up. Case cracked. Needs a hard boot at least twice a day.
Upgrade day is May 12.

My mom kept my hair cut short. I was mistaken for a boy til I grew boobs.
This is a feminine cut though.

(66,294 posts)Sexy is in the eye of the beholder, and a short cut on a woman is definitely a candidate for sexihood...

(4,833 posts)can be just fine.
In warm weather areas you see them a lot - heat on the back of the neck, and time spent maintaining longer hair, I would guess.
Much depends on how you wear it - by that I mean, if you are cringing, people will look at you strangely. If you step right out, it will be OK.
And, I might add, the back of a lady's neck is a very underrated feature.
In any event, it is too late to do anything about it, as you suggest. So revel in it. Take it for a spin. You might like it. So might "your public".
As for a strong chin - years ago, in one of the spin offs of Star Trek ("The New Generation" I think), there was a blonde female character who had a major role until they wrote her out a couple of years later. A Star Trek fan could, I am sure, identify her better than that. In any event, the actress looked to be of Scandinavian or perhaps eastern Russian or Ukrainian stock. A tall, striking blonde. Who had a strong chin. And a short bobbed haircut. Trust me, she was a stunner.
Fear not. It will be fine.

(17,086 posts)It's not a stage name. Her grampa was named "Bing".

(4,833 posts)I don't think Bing ever got a pictorial in Playboy, either...

(268 posts)I ride and keep it short due to the maintenance problem. I don't see how some guys that ride stand to keep it long.

(2,959 posts)said my tearful friend at my door with her purse over her head.
She told the stylist she wanted something "simple, easy to take care of"
We slipped and snipped that night till she had an acceptable 'do. It was a major trauma for both of us. I was in my late 20's and had never cut hair. We both hope to never relive that experience. Hair eventually grow back unfortunately memories are sometimes burned into one's psyche.

(46,684 posts)I signed off Super cuts forever as a young mother the day I had a major miscommunication with the young stylist. I told her that I didn't usually fuss with my hair but would french braid it for special occasions. She looked at it for a moment and then explained she would cut an inch off, in a way that would make the ends of my hair curl in better. I said, sure.
I don't know why I didn't jump up immediately, but at one point she took a good chunk of my hair at the nape of my neck and cut it up to an inch from my scalp. When it was over, she flipped the top layers over this stubby chunk of hair she left on the nape of my neck.
I remember saying, "Do you remember when I said I put my hair in a French braid! How can I do that now!"
From then on, if I find a hairdresser that listens well, I follow her from salon to salon until she moves out of the area, and pay whatever it takes.

(31,374 posts)I keep it shoulder length.
Fortunately, hair grows back!
In fact, I had the stylist only trim it this time (had about 1 1/2 inches of growth since last cut)
because I like to put it up in the summer--off my neck--and it's easier when it's slightly longer.
Hope you enjoy it! Big earrings are fun with short hair!

(20,176 posts)I have it often because I'm poor and cheap so I go to the barber college for $5 haircuts. I usually bring a picture of what I want, a very-short side-part...somewhere between Christiano Ronaldo and Anderson Cooper. Twice I've barely warmed the chair when the student barber takes a #3 buzzer straight down the center of my head...all you can do it close your eyes and not pay attention because you are going to come out of this with your head completely-shaved.

(4,465 posts)after I cut it no matter how long it is. But I've never cut that much off at once! That's gotta be a shocker for you.
I've never had good luck with salons, they never knew what to do with all my hair. I took a chance a few years ago and went to one. I told her I wanted long layers cut in. I ended up with a huge uneven chunk off the left front side. It was insane! She must have been drunk.
I somehow manged to blend it in but omg, it was a nightmare. I haven't been back since. I keep it long with some top layers. I have to be able to pull it back in a pony when I work out or when I'm having a bad hair day. I would freak if I couldn't put it in a pony.
Do you think you're going to like it at that length? or will you grow it back?

(19,824 posts)At least the ones in the chain operations.
I've even brought along pictures taken right after a good hair cut to show them what to shoot for and pointed out a couple of details ("see here how the hair drapes a little bit over the tops of my ears?" "I prefer it about this long in the back" ...and that's about it).
It's still always a crap shoot.
My all time favorite stylist-not-paying-attention moment was when one held a razor to my sideburns, ready to cut, and asked "how long do you like your sideburns?" and I replied "I HAVE A BEARD!!"
