Spinoff on first kiss thread-- your first love?

How well do you remember your first love? How old were you when you were with him/her? Why did you break up? Are you still in touch?

My first love was a guy I dated when I was 18 (he was 21). We met at a concert and kept dating when I went to college (he even came to visit a few times). However, when I innocently let him use my computer to check his email, I caught him on an IM with another one of his (3) girlfriends. I dumped him the did a really really bitchy thing and told the other girls.

I've long lost touch with him but every so often I wonder what could have been.

We met when I was 15 and he was 17. He's gotten a little nuts in the past few years, but we still care a great deal about each other. It helped that even though we were very young when our son was born, we always put his needs first.

We met at the grocery store he worked at. After seeing him several times and noticing that he was following me around, he finally asked if he could drive me home one day. When we got to his car, I realized it was the same car that used to park across from where I would wait for the bus. At 14, I wasn't smart enough to be freaked out. Yes, he had been stalking me for about 6 months.

FWIW, he never touched me until after my 16th birthday and then it was a very sweet, shy, "Can I hold your hand?".

Senior year high school. Met her a little earlier than that.
We are good friends.

She still tells me that I was the one who treated her the best.

He was and remains the most gorgeous man I've ever seen.

Sadly, that's just a technicality though. For her, anyway.

The divorce papers are on my desk, awaiting my review. I keep putting it off. It's sad when a dream dies.

I don't count "crushes" as a teen as first love.

My first love is/was my wife who I met in 1973, married in 75.

She started divorce proceedings in 78 that I would not agree to - I was desperately enamored with her despite her cheating ways.

I never thought or dreamed of "cheating" - it wrecked my rose-colored glass vision of our marriage, so when she physically left the house,

I physically left the country, spent 14 months in California - but only partially healed.

Still not healed totally after almost half a decade.

It is indeed sad when a dream dies.

I adored her.

(sigh)

13. My first "serious" relationships were catastrophic.
Fri Apr 26, 2013, 05:24 PM
Apr 2013

My first girlfriend was a woman who was trying to prove to herself, her family, and her church that she wasn't a lesbian.

My second was a woman who'd claimed she'd divorced her fundamentalist husband and gone back to school. But she was only separated, and she went back to him once he'd accepted it was okay to have a wife who was more educated than he was.

Then I went back to first girlfriend who was still struggling. It was her habit to bring home these skinny street waifs (not surprising, because I was rather like that when we met...) and she'd convinced herself that having sex with women wasn't really sex. She married the last woman she picked up, married at least so much as was possible in the 'eighties. She could afford very good lawyers. We actively avoid one another to this day. We crossed paths once at a Silicon Valley convention and we both pretended not to know one another.

Those relationships never progressed beyond the occasional kiss, hand-holding, cuddle, and footsie under the table studying at the university library stage, but we did swim naked together.

My next relationship was with a woman who liked divorced older men with money. I wasn't either.

Then I met my wife. She's truly my first love.

My first I already described and my second (12 years later) was even worse. He was an alcoholic, but I didn't see it out of being naive and blinded by love. He ended up leaving me stranded as I moved halfway across the country for a job (a fight in which he had a dog in and I did not).

I'm currently in an 'I don't know what we are' phase with someone who lives 6 hours away. I keep my fingers crossed every day that things will work out, because I feel a lot more strongly about him than I ever did before, and we're much more compatible.

The first time in my life I ever fell head over heels in love. It was a long distance relationship and neither of us was in any position to move since we were both married to our jobs. We drifted apart over the years, but hardly a day goes by that I don't think about him. I've often thought about looking him up again, but he's since moved and changed his phone number and I wouldn't even begin to know where to start to look now.

You could always look him up there (I've thought about looking up C, my first love, there but always chickened out). I have reconnected with several old friends (many from elementary school days) there.

Circa 1947.

Wearing bathing suits and playing in the sprinkler.

Lucy Carol Moore.

She lived in the house behind ours just across the alley.
We were so much in love that my granny had to come out and break it up.
In first grade, our desks were next to each other and our teacher had to move me to the back of the room to separate us.

I was a dirty old man at a very young age.
Or possibly just an incurable romantic.

I was 15 and in 10th grade. He was 19 and a college freshman. It was a whirlwind.... and didn't end well. We got back together when I was in college but the magic was gone. I still wonder about him though. I have tried to find him online, but had no success.
