A few years ago I saw a device called Sav-a-Blade on tv. I found one at Walgreens and bought it for $14.99. It runs on one AA battery and I've only changed it once.
It sharpens razor blades like new.
Everybody said I was wasting my money. But...
Since January 2011, I purchased one 4-pack of blades for my razor.
I used the first blade until February 2012, sharpening it about once every ten days or so.
I used the second blade until January 2013.
I've been using the same razor blade ever since and have one left for next year.
Wasted my money?
I. don't. think. so.
I think they can be found online. I highly recommend you get one.

ETA: Available from Amazon.com for $7.95. It got poor reviews but I am very happy with it.

I have had mine since 2007. I regularly get @ 90+ shaves per blade.
Just recently changed out the blade I had since last October. I have added putting them in baby oil between shaves. Supposedly exposure to air is what causes a blade to get dull.

My daughter gets @ 6 months on her blades.
As I say, I back up what you say.
