The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsGood day in clinic today. Some of my diabetic patients are showing improvement.
No craziness today, or a crammed schedule. Everything went off without a hitch. And I did good medicine for my patients.
Dear Lord, more days like today, please!...
Hi, DU peeps!

(7,515 posts)That some of your diabetic patients are improving is good news indeed. That there was no craziness must have been a welcomed relief!

(66,316 posts)Some days can be weird. Some days I'll see, like 15 patients, and it'll be all crazy and mixed up, and frustrating.
And there are days I'll see 23 patients, or so, and everything will go off without a hitch.
Today was a busy, but smooth, day.

(66,316 posts)I wonder what tomorrow will bring. I tend not to sweat Tuesdays too much. Tuesday night is my late night. After clinic closes, I have a few precious, undisturbed hours to get caught up on paperwork. I've still got some charts from last Friday to close out.
Sekhmets Daughter
(7,515 posts)vital but enough to make you crazy sometimes, I bet.

We have to have days like this one, where everything flows just as you want it to.
I hope you have more days like this too!

Thank you for introducing me to this version of one of my favorite stories!
Aristus
(66,316 posts)In my mind, the best version of the novel, ever.

(28,941 posts)The screenplay was written by George MacDonald Fraser, the same man who wrote the Flashman series. He caught the flash, dash and grit perfectly.

(66,316 posts)On looking at d'Artagnan's broken sword:
"Oh. Do me the honor of taking one on loan until yours......grows longer..."
I love how gruff he is, and at the same time, you can tell how much he loves his musketeers.
"Sir, I ask charity of no one."
"Then you aren't likely to get it, are you, young man?"
"I see, sir. That is quite different."
"Not charity, no. Love, and courtesy for the son of an old friend. To keep his enemies an inch or two further off."
I've seen it so many times, I've got the film memorized...

(28,941 posts)So poignant.
If you haven't read it, recommend Fraser's The Hollywood History of the World. You'll enjoy the section on the two musketeer films.
Aristus
(66,316 posts)I'll have to read that.

(66,316 posts)Sometimes it'll be cold and rainy outside, and there'll be a line around the block. (Homeless people are more inured to cold and rain than most people. Sad.) Other times, the weather will keep everybody inside at the shelter or the public library.
When it's bright and warm, like today, sometimes potential patients will be running other errands while the weather is good. Other times, it makes standing in line at the clinic a little more bearable.

About a month ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I'm taking my metformin and counting my carbs. It's a whole new way of living.

You cannot go wrong reading his posts...
And good luck managing your type 2 diabetes.

(66,316 posts)I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. Diabetes can be tough, but it can be managed. Keep taking your meds. Get 45-60 minutes of elevated cardio, five days a week.
Not all carbs are bad. Stay away from High Fructose Corn Syrup, and anything that uses it as an ingredient. Sugared sodas, Gatorade (God! NEVER drink Gatorade! That stuff is terrible for you!...), energy drinks, sports drinks, bottled teas, etc.
I've advised people to eliminate HFCS, and watched their Hgb A1C drop from, say, 12.9 to 7.5 or so in just 8-12 weeks.
Good to have you here!

(53,061 posts)I brought my A1C from 11.9 to 6.7.
Stopped taking the Metaformin.
But you have to walk every day.

(53,061 posts)Diabetes 2 - not as much fun as they said it would be.
Total out of pocket costs (no insurance) including tests and doctors visit is less than $ 800.
I was waiting for jury duty when I went through a cycle of hunger, thirst, urination, falling asleep, hunger, etc, every 45 minutes.
On the way home I got the test and found out that I was at 420 mg/dl.
Started with no cars and exercise and within two weeks got it down to 200. Now I only worry about by AC1 test every 6 months.

Not as much fun as people said it would be!
Cut out the carbs, lost 30 pounds and walk 3 miles every day.
A1C dropped from 11.9 to 6.7 in about 6 months, stopped taking the Metaformin.
You can too!
Walking is critical.

Metformin made me very sick.
Glimepiride is working for me. I'll be out walking now that Spring has arrived. It was a huge mistake for me to totally hibernate this Winter.
