His only saving grace was that he must have realized it was shameful and he didn't
reveal it to us or influence OUR perceptions when we were children -- he started to
let it show when we were adults... and as he aged, he got worse.

One day, he was going off about "fairies" and, respect my elders or not, I told him
to STFU about that -- at least in my presence.
.
His excuse? "It's how I was raised."
.
My response? "You've got to grow up sometime."
.
He didn't talk like that ever again in my presence.

I think I'll be using that one soon. I tell ya, there is nothing worse than fielding ignorant questions from people who live their lives behind gated communities. (I mean that metaphorically.) They think they have the right to ask the most stupid questions when they get you cornered. And everyone around them enables their stupidity by saying, "You must respect your elders."

Well, no. Not really.
