WTF? Is Classmates.com the lamest excuse for a social networking site or what?

Does anyone know how to get any use from classmates.com? after not looking at my account for years, I logged in today and realized exactly why I hadn't looked at it in years. it said I had 55 new signatures to my guestbook but had to pay for a membership to see them. I paid the minimum and there are really no messages associated with the signatures to my guestbook....so what's the point? Viewing old classmates' profiles doesn't really give you any info about them.

Does anyone know how to get anything useful out of a classmates.com membership? As a social networking site, it's not the least bit engaging, there is minimal information about members, and there seems to be no encouragement for any kind of real communication or collaboration.

what am I missing?

They are in the business of gathering as much information about people as possible, and selling it for profit. Marketers, potential employers, banks and other entities love to know where you live and what age you are so they can target you for sales pitches and much more.

I steer clear of Classmates, LinkedIn and sites like that. Let them work harder to get my information. They'll get it anyway, but why make it easier for them, and actually pay them to do it.

membership there maybe 10 or 12 years ago. The only use I found was having a photo album and being able to message others.

At one point, the site was the defendant in a Class Action suit.

And yeah...I was one of those lucky people who collected a whole $3.93. Whoopeeee!

I don't use it anymore. I get much more classmate action for free on Facebook

They flat-out lie to you and no, there is not one useful thing about them. I am surprised they are still in business. I had to black-list them in my email client to stop seeing their useless spam.

I agree that Linked-In is useful and there is not one thing that CM.com does that Facebook doesn't do better for free.

I think they are full of shit and got tired of seeing all the begging me to pay to see who wanted to talk to me (mostly all of which was untrue, btw, as confirmed by talking to those same people on FB.) I haven't looked at their site or gotten email from them in 6 or 7 years. It's been nice.

Im a year late to this convo but anyways if anyone cares, Classmates.com was purchased by a publicly traded company. Look what happened to Facebook and all other major corps that became publicly traded. Their goals switched to grabbing info rather then customer satisfaction.
