The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHave you ever spent a day waiting for a phone call...
All day...
While the phone rings off the hook...
And it's everybody but the one you want?
That's me. Today. Lab results, really important ones.
Damn.
And I might not hear until Monday.

(7,515 posts)Step out, let the machine take the call.... If nothing else, it will take your mind off of the phone for a bit!
Have you tried calling the office to see if the results are even in?
I do sympathize, the waiting is usually the worst part...

(149,297 posts)She said she would check with the pathology people to see if the report had been written yet...
And she would call me if it had been.
I told her that if I weren't home, to leave a message, and she said she would. It was very comforting!
I don't normally obsess over lab results, but this one is a biggie...
Thank you so much, my dear Sekhmets Daughter...

(5,909 posts)My husband is a Stage 3 cancer survivor Peggy....waiting for Pet Scan results physically made me sick.
Hang in there....good vibes from us!
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,297 posts)Yeah, they are.
I so hear you! I am sorry you're having to deal with this and on such a scary level...
Thank you for the vibes, and here's a bunch of them back to you both!

I'm sorry you have to go through this stress -- I know it is maddening and kinda scary.
.
Part of that is because we fear and dread the worst... and, for some reason, almost
EXPECT it.
.
I hope this helps -- they tend to treat any BAD news with more (sometimes MUCH more)
urgency than the GOOD news. Good news needs no immediate action/decision.
.
So try to balance your fears and my experience -- probably yours too with your medical
experience. The longer the wait -- the better the news.

(14,400 posts)and it was on a Friday too. Waiting on a call like that is incredibly stressful. It's amazing how fast I can go to simply assuming the worst is the only possible explanation, even though I know it's not.
I'm sorry for the wait, hopefully you don't have to sit the weekend and the results come back the way you need them to be.

(149,297 posts)It's funny how our minds can just take over and run with the worst case scenario. I wonder why we do that?
I'm hoping for all the same results!

(862 posts)I feel free to phone the office at 3:30pm if I haven't heard anything. That's early enough in case they close at 4pm.
If the results were horrible, they'd have whisked you into an ambulance.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,297 posts)The girl I spoke to was quite clear that she would contact me if the report had been filed.
There won't be any ambulance for me in this case. Just a very soon date with a surgeon...
Still, I appreciate your very good thoughts, my dear RILib!

(53,795 posts)Nice to be a finalist, but I knew I didn't have it after the call back interview. They said they'd call one way or the other by today, but of course they didn't call. Meh, I knew I wasn't picked, but it'd be nice just to have a call about the corpse.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,297 posts)A courtesy call is always a good thing.
And, you are NOT a corpse, silly!

Good wishes and good answers for you next week!

(149,297 posts)The girl I spoke to said if I didn't hear today (and I didn't) that it would happen Monday.
They just haven't written the report yet.
I can wait, esp. with all the support I have here from you...

I will post the story once I have the results...

(10,237 posts)Someone called and said they noticed I didn't have insurance and wanted to tell me about a payment plan because they wanted to send
their test results to UCLA for them to look at which would take 7 business days for those results. I made it thru that and you will too
you are loved .
