(33,688 posts)all my life. This is the coldest, snowiest, most depressing and miserable "spring" I can ever remember. By far.

(14,656 posts)snowy winter, lots of the white stuff and extremely cold....-40F but this winter, or spring, is remarkable. My son and daughter both live in the Twin Cities and they and everyone else I talk with up there has 'had it' this year!
Hang in there...as if you could do otherwise!

(33,688 posts)I've been offered a good job in Hangzhou, China at a German audio company's factory doing marketing and product development. And I intend to take it. I am getting too old for this Minnesota winter crap. Especially after last year, when it was 70+ on freaking St Patrick's Day.

(14,656 posts)the country to avoid winter is a huge step. Good luck!

(33,688 posts)It's the only place I can get a job. Warmer weather in Hangzhou is just a side benefit. A brief Google seems to indicate that it's sorta like a warmer Seattle with little if any snow. Beats Mpls.

(33,688 posts)I doubt I will ever come back if I move. This country is incredibly unkind to Asperger people like me. The more formal social structures of China will probably be a boon for me. And my boss will not be Chinese, but a German citizen (whom I know quite well) of Portuguese/Spanish descent. He's a genius audio engineering nerd with great taste in music and he has lived in China for twenty years. Nerds tend to flock with other nerds.
I never dreamed I would have an adventure like this in my mid 50s. But there you go.

(12,272 posts)I strongly suspect that you are going to find yourself very happy in China. Ageism is also not such a problem there. You will get used to the heat and humidity.

(22,121 posts)I lived in Eagan, MN for three years back in the mid 1980's. Coldest, snowiest winters of my life. I was crying about our weather here in PA when my brother in law's partner (lives in New Alex, MN) called and told us about the snow!

(7,515 posts)with the weather. Here today it was 78 degrees by 7 am. when I walked my dog. I hate mornings that are that warm...they make me long for snow! I can deal with 90+ at midday...but I hate hot mornings!

(33,688 posts)New Zealand or Australia are nigh-on perfect.
This has been an incredibly ugly and depressing winter here in Minnesota. That is has dragged on into its fifth (!!??!!) full month is brutal even by our standards.

(7,515 posts)So I should try New Zealand, huh? I've never been.
