i love listening to the snow fall

and i've had plenty of opportunity to do so lately. we're up to around 17 inches here in northern colorado and we could see another eight to ten before this thing is over.

here's my (broken down) car this morning.

hate driving in it, love what it's doing for the snowpack.

When I lived in the city, I loved how it muffled the sounds of traffic.

Now I live in the woods, and it's quiet enough to hear the snow hit the ground. It whispers

shhh shhh shhh

Being inside during a snowstorm is like being safe and warm in a cocoon

we live at a heavily-trafficked intersection and i can't hear it as well as other places i've lived, but i can make it out late at night.

Then my dog ran into the living room and jumped in my lap. (She's scared of t-storms.)

So I was pretty surprised when I put her out a half hour later...

His house is in the village, though
He will not see me stopping her
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and icy lake
The darkest evening of the year

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake

The woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep
And miles to go before I sleep

That was quite a snowfall for mid-April! I am in Sweden right now and pretty much all of our snow melted today.
