watching this documentary on the 80s

On National Geographic.

I was around in the 80s (for all but 3 months) and I don't remember anything that happened AT ALL. I guess I was a very sheltered kid.

I don't even remember the Challenger, and I was in school at that time.

1. For me, it was the best of times and the worst of times. I was 14 to 24 in the 80s.

This will give you a flavor:

On edit, I think I figured out where Green Day's Billy Joe got his look.

3. The 80's

I graduated college, got married and started a career in the 80's, but to be honest, the decade never took on an identity of its own for me. The 40's, the 50's, the 60's, and the 70's all clearly have an identity of their own wrt music and fashion. The 80's? I'm drawing a blank. It's probably because I dropped out of all popular culture and music in 1979.

Now that I think about it, maybe Miami Vice and the soundtrack to the movie Fletch.

I was invited to an 80's party one time where we were all supposed to dress the way we did in the 80's and have 80's hairstyles. I have no idea what that means since I haven't changed either my hairstyle or my clothing since that time.

And I was absolutely humiliated at school as a result of it. I rebelled big time as a teenager.

At the time, I could not name one top 40 hit (my parents never listened to music with words). In 5th grade (1990-1991), my mom thought I had just become a hooker when I announced that I wanted to listen to music with words that was not Disney soundtracks and preschool children's (think Mary Had a Little Lamb) songs.

before that I was in private, christian school and wasn't allowed to know about music. lol

The only difference is that somewhere around late 81 to early 82 my jeans legs went from flared to straight.

oh, and back then I could buy a medium. Now my concert Ts are xxl.

And my hair now is a pony tail instead of a full on freak flag.

Remember most if not all of what has been shown so far. Just have the last episode to finish tonight (DVR'ed it last night).

The level of DERP was too much.

It is as superficial as the 80's was. No real context or perspective.
