So who was the terrible bowsman? Was there a personal reason he missed the shot?

(12,712 posts)literature has done more to implant beliefs than it has done to impose a reassessment of reality upon those who it has affected?
We can see that there are tribes untouched by our history and literal assessments, who are perfectly capable of living life in tune with their environments and nature without any imposition of literacy or even history itself.
If you want to think of literature as a cure, consider it also, as a cause. If it is a cause that curse itself, then we have much to consider in the sense of our indoctrination, conditioning and how what is imposed upon us then presents itself as a supposedly obvious and benevolent savior for a predicament that is not necessarily natural, but an artificial result of our capacity to create an abstract, symbolic representation of reality and then lord our skills of that understanding over others.
What part of oneupmanship do we not get here?

(12,132 posts)was the bad bowman the same guy Robb was later chewing out for taking the mill?

(46,700 posts)I didn't understand why they were spending so much time on him.

(12,132 posts)but I thought I remembered it happening differently....Man I should read them again. I keep saying that in all these GoT threads but I keep not doing it...I will though.

(56,828 posts)Jamie was captured by a group of mercenaries of questionable loyalty called The Brave Companions, led by a lisping fellow named Vargo Hoat. The Brave Companions - or Bloody Mummers - were an eclectic lot of mercenaries, and it was a fat Dothraki guy who chopped his hand off with an arakh. Forgot the exact name.

(5,842 posts)Not sure that Vargo Hoat pulling a Sylvester the Cat would have come off as anything but annoying on screen...and people would complain if you had Vargo but without his lisp.
The Bolton lackey comes off as much more menacing/psychotic in my opinion.
Since the Mummers main purpose is to get Jamie and Brienne's traveling road show to Harrenhall it makes just as much sense to turn them into Bolton loyalists in the program.

(9,465 posts)That's pretty far into the book. The fat Dothraki is never named AFAIK.
I don't have cable, but I can't wait until Joffrey's wedding. That's got to be an OMG moment on Facebook for anyone who hasn't read the book.
And as for the wedding that takes place later....

He may have misfired out of grief over his father's death? Or, maybe he's just not a great bowman? Or, maybe a bit of both.

Unfortunately, with a limited budget and "only" 10 hours per year of show (which includes 1 minute of "previously on" and 90 seconds of theme song and 1 minute of close credits per week), you can't include every detail.
The big thing left out is all of Ned's flashbacks from book 1 regarding Lyanna Stark, and the hints about Jon Snow. They really have to work all that in there one of these days (Maester Aemon maybe?)
Hayabusa
(2,135 posts)Yeah, but they only have two seasons for that, really.

Good episode overall - not sure where they're going with Theon. I liked them ending on Jamie getting his hand chopped off.
