literally a Serf, (unpaid labor) and have been for a few years now, and we are not yet subject to a Fiefdom tax.

Give it time: Serf Form 1042-S.

How they would extract the tax from us is another matter. Pound of flesh? Oh, that's it. Kidney? One cornea? Yes, we do have spare and valuable body parts and items available for harvesting.

I mean, what's the point in procrastinating if you're not going to do it right?

Besides, I like knowing what I'll be doing on the 15th. It's the only day of the year that I am 100% certain of what I'll be doing.

Even birthdays and Christmas aren't as reliable.

12. Little-known fact:

(I used to work at the IRS, coding returns for data entry, which is where I learned this). They don't tell the public this (for the obvious reasons), but there is a one-week administrative grace period to file your return after April 15th. If it's in to their service center by April 22nd, there is no penalties or interest added to your tax bill. We didn't start flagging returns as late until April 23rd; everything received before that got coded as OK to process without penalty.

I always took advantage of that if I owed extra; I never put my return in the mail until April 17th or 18th if I owed money. They never charged me a penalty or interest.

FYI. (disclaimer: this is NOT tax advice!)

There have been years when I didn't get to the post office until they had closed on the 15th, so I know it had to have been postmarked the 16th. And not a peep from the IRS.

I wonder if the same is true for state taxes?

there may be variances from state to state. I think I have sent my Missouri taxes in at same time as federal (after the 15th) and had no problems...FWIW.....
