MAJOR vibes coming your way (and my problems THIS time are more lung and kidley-related,
so I've got PLENTY of heart vibes for you).
.
I don't know if I've EVER met anyone with more heart than you so, while annoying, troublesome,
maybe even scary right now... in the long run you are going to be just fine.
.
.
Give us updates, but only when you FEEL comfortable and have the time for them. We're anxious
to hear from you... but we also want you to focus on yourself for now.
.
I hope it's transitory and turns out to be more minor that you had thought it COULD be.

It's too bad we don't go to the same hospital... wouldn't WE raise some hell!!!

(149,513 posts)Just got home!
I'm OK.
It was my heart, reacting adversely to a beta blocker I'm on. The med keeps my heart rhythm normal.
But today, the drug made my heart rate drop into the 40's and 50's, which made me lightheaded.
The staff and doc were great! Lots of vital signs taken, including checking me for orthostatic hypotension. I didn't have that.
So now I'm home, and getting ready for dinner which is being delivered, thank goodness...
Thank you all for your great thoughts and vibes...
They mean a lot.

(149,513 posts)But the situation is fluid. I'm sure I will soon be in contact with my cardiologist, poor man!

I do feel OK!

(14,061 posts)FWIW, a family member is also on beta blockers and every so often he has the same issue...then they have to play around with his dosages in order to get things back on track.
Scary when it happens, but it is manageable.
Best wishes.
snappyturtle
(14,656 posts)Took a lot of time to find the one that is just right....and keeps working!
I have persistent tachycardia, atrial in origin, and that's all they know.
But, to keep my heart at a reasonable rate rather than 160 beats a
minute, the extended release BB Toprol XL 50 mg works like magic. Some
Beta blockers early on dropped my bp so much I'd pass out! But lower
doses didn't work either to keep the rate down. Just wondering if that's
what's happening to you. Good luck...thinking of you.
Aristus
(66,274 posts)davsand
(13,421 posts)Beta blockers, while a helpful thing in certain cases, can be a difficult thing to dose. What works fine for one person might not work for somebody else. I can't take them at all because even the smallest amount depresses my heart rate to a dangerous level. I found that out when I first went on eye drops for Glaucoma. A VERY small dose in those eye drops and it was all I could do to stand up. I remember the eye doc telling me that there were a certain number of people that simply cannot take that category of drug in any form, and, evidently, I am one of those people. My husband has been on them for years with hypertension, and he's NEVER had an issue!
Good luck to you on finding a med you can take comfortably! There are a bunch of them out there, and I have faith you will be feeling fine soon!

(149,513 posts)My doc has increased the dosage to control my atrial fib/flutter. Now we're up to the maximum dose.
This new symptom of falling heart rate/falling blood pressure is brand new. Obviously we need to do something. Just what, is the question...
RILib
(862 posts)I had rythmol added in a year ago. I luv it. Not even noticeable to me ectopics. I still have to take a beta blocker, but the cardio says I can try reducing the dose.

(60,010 posts)I have been on them going on 3 years for too rapid heart rate, the first year was pretty interesting as we learned what doseage works best.
Scary scary symptoms when the heart acts up, tho.
I finally bought a blood pressure machine that also tells my heart rate, so I would know when any symptoms needed checking out.
So glad you were able to get it checked out and are fine.

(4,949 posts)Just a few suggestions:
Your cardiologist may lower the dosage of the beta blocker a little--cut it in half.
Yet You may need to have a TSH blood test drawn. As we get older our thyroids slow down a bit and our hearts tick slower due to less thyroid stimulating hormone alone. For sure the thyroid gland rules heart rate so it would be best to have that simple blood test.
The field of cardiac electrophysiology is making great strides in permanently correcting most fast heart rhythms. The procedures are essentially non surgical and most Pts. go home the next day. Here is a 6 min. Youtube to give an overview of what can be done.
