(37,648 posts)If you really care that much, just check your ignore count frequently, esp after a hostile encounter. And esp if you get a hostile or condescending post that doesn't make sense....something like a hotly worded juvenile post. That's your guy who will "ignore" everyone who doesn't think lockstep with him.
BTW...it's a good thing sometimes to be ignored by some of the wackos. You should also place some of those kinds of posters on ignore. Just get 'em out of your sight. They're disruptive.
But to get ignores sometimes means you've actually contributed to the conversation and didn't just mealy mouth agree with everyone, or stay silent when you disagree. If you're posting in a political forum, that means, I would assume, you have some political thoughts and opinions to contribute. And if you do...someone is going to disagree with you and take it personally.

(37,648 posts)Only the boring, wishy washy posters get away with no ignores. So congratulations! You expressed an opinion! You know, that's all it takes to get ignored. Some people cannot accept that others have a different opinion.

(37,648 posts)people on your ignore list cannot sit on a jury for one of your posts. That's why some people use ignore extensively. Someone with really differing views...they figure would vote to hide a post of theirs, if the situation came up.
They are of course assuming that jurors vote according to the substance of the political thought in a post. I guess the ones doing the ignoring are that way. I am not. I've voted to hide or not hide, regardless of how much I disagree with the poster's viewpoint.
Chan790
(20,176 posts)It's because I don't give a damn what they think...and to keep them off my juries.
I'd say I might have a talent for ignoring people...I say absolutely malevolent things to people who deserve it and have never had a post hidden on DU3. Also, there is no pragmatic center-right of the Democratic party on my DU; it's as liberal here as on the Democratic Socialist blogs I read.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)If they are center-right, they are by definition Republicans or conservatives. But someone who is extreme left might consider someone left of center as center-right, because they are not used to those viewpoints.
The left of center varies from close to the center to mid-left to far left (progressives). The right has a corresponding range. Those on the far right are way out there and can be read on freerepublic.com, although I can't take going over there.

(20,176 posts)I live on the cusp of a Bible-thumper conservative area of a southern state (live in MD, have volunteered for campaigns into western VA and the areas around Shenandoah) and there are proudly-and-vocally center-right Democrats.
What back in CT we would have called moderate Republicans (aka. the only Republicans to win an election in CT in the past 20 years)...they're here, they're Democrats and they make it known that they are running as conservatives who are "the moderate choice." (e.g. the less-extreme conservative in the race.) Most of them don't even face a primary from the left-of-center.
Also...yes, they are represented here on DU.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)I've read a few planted (and obvious) posts by Republicans, though.
We have in the south some so-called Democrats who are holdovers from the old Democratic Party. They call themselves Democrats, but they are, and they vote, Republican.
I suspect you would consider ME center right. But I'm not. I'm most definitely left of center, having done all those tests on the Internet and from discussions with others. But I do hold some moderate views on some issues. I also hold some progressive positions on a few issues. I am a moderate, which may explain why I knew Obama was a moderate, whereas some people seem shocked that he's not a progressive. He never was. But I am shocked at some of the things he's done and is doing. I didn't see that coming and can't figure out why.

(18,101 posts)People that you have on ignore can serve on a jury for your posts. One can't serve on a jury for people they're ignoring. If you don't want someone to judge any of your posts, you need to put them on your jury blacklist.
they have their "Willingness to serve on a DU Jury" option set to "Unwilling"

Why would someone just block mail from me? I've only used DU Mail once, and that is because someone sent me a message a long time ago.

So let it be known to all, I am not one of the people ignoring you or blocking you from DUmail.

(102,225 posts)I think that is probably a good idea, since so many seem to really fixate on it (I've been known to myself, until I realized that even when members who have you on ignore are PPR'd, the "ignore" stays in your stats). I know that at least some of mine came from my time on MIRT when I engaged potential disruptors, who were later banned.
I'm sure more come from those who I may have irritated in some way or don't like the groups I participate in, or confuse my name with another or....
Regardless, I think the "ignore" stat is not very useful and potentially harmful for some members.

(43,889 posts)All I have to do is reply to somebody who has me on ignore.
And it will tell me: Yo! this here post you're replying to ain't gonna be seen 'cause the perp you're replying to has you on ignore.
Then I block them back.
For good.
