It was bound to happen. My cat has figured out the laser pointer.

Now she swats at the pointer and rolls it around with her paws until I turn it on so she can chase the red dot. She obviously knows the pointer causes the dot, and that the dot isn't real, but she loves to chase it anyhow, so she goes after the pointer until I play the game with her.

Oops, she's back. Wants to play some more.

Long before laser pointers were invented, we used old lunge whips to play with our kitties - long flexible stick with a braided lash on the end. Every cat we ever had would concentrate on whatever was at the end of the rope - we'd tie socks or pieces of cloth on for the cats to chase and attack.

Except our current cat. First time I pulled out the whip to wear him out at bedtime, he looked at the stuffed sock on the end, followed the lash up to the body of the whip, then down the whip to my hand. And immediately ran up and attacked my hand. Drew blood - and at that point he weighed all of 5 ounces.

If I tried to use a laser pointer to play with him, he'd probably take it away from me and bury it.
