44 years ago...about right now...I was pounding down Martinis or Rusty Nails.

I don't remember which.
Maybe both.
It was my last night of bachelorhood and I was observing the time old tradition of getting shitfaced.

My buddies and I had reserved rooms at Martinetti's Motel in Crystal lake, Illinois and we were at the bar. I had been forced out of the cozy apartment that I had shared with the future Miz t. by her Matron of Honor, the wife of my Best Man.
"Honey, you can't spend the night before your wedding with the bride-to-be."
Fair enough, I guess.

It was next to an elopement.
We were engaged and I had met her family, but the decision to 'do the deed' was kind of spur-of-the-moment. They were fine with that and (I think) relieved not to have to travel from Houston to Chicago. My father-in-law had already married off two other daughters.
We had their blessing.

To say that I was hungover during the nuptials the next day would be a gross understatement.
I had the mother-of-all, thermonuclear-starburst hangovers.
Dropped the prayer book during the ceremony and was afraid to bend over to pick it up.
But I did.

Anyway...this inauspicious beginning led to (so far) 44 years of a warm, loving, enjoyable partnership; one wonderful daughter; a much loved son-in-law; and two fun grandchildren.
Who could ask for anything more?

44 years together, a daughter, a grandchild, a son-in-law you love...doesn't get any better than that!

(My wife and I will celebrate 31 years together in Aug.)

My "buddies" took me to a strip club and got me hammered.
I woke up the next day on the floor of a friends house.
It was an omen.

You are a good role model for how to have a happy marriage and it seems more than a few grooms suffer from hangovers.

A year later we bought our first house in Lakewood, about 2 blocks from the lake.
$35,000.
Two bedroom, bath and a quarter (toilet and sink off the 'master' bedroom).

When I signed that first mortgage I was scared shitless.
"Oh. My. God. I have just signed my life away."
