I'm feeling sad and could use a good TV show. One that is funny and smart but no sad dramas. Can anyone recommend a show that they like to watch? I like British and American shows.

(22,143 posts)But Arrested Development is pretty funny. I just started watching that on Netflix. Give that a shot if you like smart and funny.

The writing was stunning.
Aaron Sorkin says he was trying to create an idealized Bill Clinton administration. But in many ways, he was anticipating the administration of Barack Obama...

(3,065 posts)Interesting. Australia has the oldest geology on the planet. No wonder all the wildlife is so different from the rest of the world.

I expect to have grand kids who speak with cute English accents before long. Few more years

(27,677 posts)That's all I'm watching tonight as I time-shift Stewart, Colbert and Ferguson to watch the next day.
Funny and smart shows I like are Archer, Doctor Who and The Big Bang Theory. You might want to check out Sports Night if you never saw it before. Only ran for two seasons but they were good seasons.

(99,915 posts)It's one of the funniest spy themed shows on TV. Think of it as a modern day "Get Smart" but with lots and lots of booze.
Also check out "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia", "30 Rock", and of course the forthcoming new season of "Arrested Development" if you like comedies.

My second favorite thing to watch is a blank screen, so other than that I'm not much help.

(3,065 posts)The West Wing. I can practically speak the lines, I've re-watched them so many times. The topics are as timely now as they were in the 90's. Just shows that Congress hasn't done shit for the last 20 years.

(8,217 posts)I've just finished:
Eureka - I love this show. The series is over, and it was a nice little journey. It is about a law enforcement officer who became a deputy to a town of geniuses.
Warehouse 13 - Another Syfy show which sometimes has crossovers with Eureka. A team that hunts artifacts which reference historical figures. Fantasy based and unbelievable, but it has heart.
Grimm - Currently in the 2nd season in NBC, it is about a descendant of the Grimms, as in Grimm Fairy tales. My favorite character in this show has to be Monroe. It has some humor, bad special effects, but I like the story, and how everything has a German name.
Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Great show, which is hysterically funny. Kinda demented and disgusting in a way, but it is part of the charm.
There are others, but I am not mentioning the dramas or "sad" ones. I just mentioned the ones that are quirky and fun.

I think I will try Sports Night. I got the DVDs as a gift. For some reason, I have never gotten around to watching the West Wing. I will have to watch it sometime.
