You know...those items and devices you rushed out to buy because you thought it might save time?
I something that cuts up an onion quick...used it once or twice, and then went back to using a regular knife...

A pasta maker that I'm sure will work just fine if I ever get off my lazy ass and actually start using
A slow cooker that we never use

if I had more disposable income this would be a BIG problem for me, I am sure
more of a problem is KEEPING and still trying to use crap that should be tossed - the dull can opener and rusty, dull cheesegrater, knives with loose handles, bent forks, spatulas with no real handles, melted plastic cutting boards, burnt hot mats etc etc

(10,237 posts)we got the Bag-O- Broken Glass that we hardly use unless we grate cheese .
Actually we have several broken gadgets from the 80s but no bread maker or pasta -O- matic.

(20,176 posts)Buttered bread, sandwich fillings, cheese, another slice of buttered bread. Close. Set OED on top for weight. Cook 3 minutes.
Panini at home.
(Yeah, if you don't cook meat, a Foreman grill is useless.)

(2,338 posts)I can't begin to tell you about all the kitchen gadgets and tools I have purchased over the years.
I bought a food mill last year and it is still a virgin. It looked cool and Anne Burrell's show convinced me that I really, really needed it to make my life complete.
My favorite tools are a micro-plainer, a wooden juicer (I don't need a fancy electric one), my mini food processor and a set of really good, sharp knives. There are other favorites, but I'll add that the ice cream maker is just a space taker. Why, oh why, can't I bear to get rid of it? I MIGHT USE IT....someday.

(28,394 posts)A food mill would be great for making homemade tomato sauces, juice, etc. I always grow way too many tomatoes and freeze them but don't own a food mill.

(8,579 posts)and I use most of them - esp my Vitamix, my metal orange juice squeezer and my latest toy which I use daily - my Breville juicer. Crock pot is the only thing not being used.

(16,919 posts)A lot of the things I've bought were because of what I've seen on the Food Network. That's great product placement for you. My food mill I've only used once. It's an Oxo. What kind did you get? I really wanted one of those stainless steel ones that Barefoot Contessa used. I remember recording her show and rewinding the part over and over again where it showed the product name, but wound up going with the Oxo -- forgot why.
Then there's the Mandolin thingie. First trip out, I got quite a slice out of my thumb with it as I looked over my shoulder at something and it slipped. Be careful with that one, folks! I still use it for potato gratins, but not as much as I thought I would compared to how they use them on TV.
The KitchenAid sausage maker I've used only once. I swear I'm going to break that thing out again. It was fun to use, but I trimmed too much fat off the pork and the sausage was a little dry. Last month I finally broke down and got their pasta press and cutters and have played around with it, but it's not a habit yet.
Then there's a pan I got from Williams Sonoma about 2 years ago, along with a cookbook, and I haven't used them yet. It's for those little round pancakes called Ebelskivers. One of these days. At least my ice cream maker was a hand-me-down from my mom. I might use that more one of these days too, lol.

(36,814 posts)Most of my kitchen storage is devoted to dry goods. I just don't have room to store things I don't use on a regular basis.

(2,338 posts)I can figure out unique places to store things. Finding them can be a challenge. Good thing my hubby loves to cook too. Otherwise I might have to hide them! Although, I already do a good job of putting them in places I can't remember.

(28,394 posts)I still have a huge Cuisinart food processor that is so damn complicated that I never use it. It came with a video about how to assemble it. I no longer own a working VCR!

(11,589 posts)It's called *The Bullet* hubby and I kinda laughed at the gift, assuming it was one of those stupid Made for TV things.
-- turns out that sucker is awesome. I can make a BBQ Dry rub grind everything up and store it easily.
Now, the Forman grill (procured from hubby's first marriage) on the other hand, it might get used onceor twice a year for cuban sandwiches.
With some of these items the set up and clean up is just more difficult and time consuming than a regular knife.

(24,541 posts)I've got old expired canned goods: tomato sauce, condensed milk, pumpkin that I loath getting rid of. I can't decided what to do with them.
Open the cans, dump the food in the compost pile and recycle the cans?
Open the cans, throw the food away and recycle the cans?
Throw the unopened cans in the garbage?
I bought this stuff in bulk years ago and I have a lot of it.
