4. That's a variation on an old barista joke.

Usually related as a true-story work experience...half shaggy-dog, half mockery of people they look down their nose at. There is unfortunately a lot of classist, anti-blue-collar humor among the younger hipster kids working the espresso bar. They're kind of assholes tbh.

Some variation on the following:

"This big burly machinist from the factory down the road in a flannel hunting cap comes in at work today, the sort you'd never expect to see in a coffeehouse. Come to the counter and says 'I want half-caf of those expresso in one of those littler coffee cup things, half-caf. demitasser or whatever you call it. One of these Biscuit E things too.' tossing a pistachio biscotti on the counter. I'm making his coffee and as I am wont to to do, I ask him what brought him in today...he's not a regular or I'd remember him. 'Well, I had some chest pain and I went to the doc and he said it was my heart and I needed to cut down on my coffee on account of the caffeine so I switched to expresso because it comes in these littler cups...I can have just as many cups as I used to, at the same times of day, just use smaller cups.' So after I explained that espresso is much higher in caffeine and he can order a demitasse of plain coffee if that's what he wants...or I can sell him a demitasse, we sell cups and mugs and brewing equipment; so I sell him a demitasse and he takes his brewed coffee in it and he thanked me for the information. I guess he was kind of embarrassed he didn't know espresso is concentrated.

He picks up his biscotti and says as he's leaving "I don't know why you've got pet stuff but it's mighty nice of you to sell these biscuits too. My duck-dog Daisy goes nuts over them."

It would be like using a pound of coffee in a 10 cup drip machine.

12. It's not really that much more viscous than American style coffee

It does tend to go down a bit like syrup because the caramelized sugars from the roasted coffee are concentrated and the essential oils from the bean coat your tongue and mouth. I like to drink a glass of carbonated water afterward.
