Belladonna has been deeply changed by her ordeal

Saturday morning she slept in, and seemed somber when I woke her with ear scritches.

Sunday morning she was out and about, but she had left behind the gift of an intact, uneaten mole. She returned early afternoon.

This morning she was out and about, but returned by mid-morning. Still was not showing her usually sense of humor, so while giving her ear scritches I reached down and tickled her tummy. She seemed to return to her normal self when she rolled on her back and grabbed my hand in her 2 paws with claws (mostly) retracted. But then she licked me. And then, before I left for work, when I scritched her ears she started purring a little.

I do not recognize this kitty who brings me gifts and licks my fingers and purrs. This is not the Bella Donna who disappeared 12 days ago!

a barn cat. She was not socialized. She never wanted to be touched. Sometimes she would follow us around the house though. We took her up to the cottage and she loved it. She would be gone for days and would return all friendly, meowing, and purring. It was such a change that we started to leave her up there all summer. We'd go up at least once in the week and on weekends. We'd leave food out for her. She'd come visit with us but never wanted to go inside. Then, just as soon as she‘d had a nice visit with us she would be gone again. We‘d capture her in September and bring her to the city. She‘d go back to being unhappy and avoiding all contact. One summer she disappeared. I‘m sure I know what happened. I don‘t regret setting her free for a few summers in a row. She was where she belonged. I think cats thay have access to the wild and a human home are the happiest cats there are.

She was a happy go lucky, flirtatious kitty. In my barn, she is loved but free to leave. But if she leaves, she discovered there is the danger of becoming trapped. So she's back home, where she is free to leave. But maybe would prefer to stay after all.
