(7,515 posts)I can't get it anywhere around here. I think the bourbon was $26 or $27 for a fifth... It's 90 proof...and just lovely! So very smooth!
hrmjustin

(10,129 posts)I'm pretty sure they ship wherever in the lower 48 it's legal to. The kit comes with 2 fifths of unaged white dog whiskey, the half gallon barrel, the funnel and two beautiful glencairn glasses. Here's one of the founders explaining the process:

(7,515 posts)a lovely sour mash... We've traded recipes...french toast and how to age your own! Ain't DU great!

(10,129 posts)now, when I aged mine, I was checking it out every week or two, and kept a little bit of a photo-journal on my facebook..here's some of the shots:
One week in the barrel:
Two weeks:
Three:
Skipped a week, so after 5 weeks:
Then, I just let it go for the final 8 weeks or so:
The taste differences were pretty noticeable, even for my kinda crappy palate lol. Definitely started out heavy on the grain, but almost immediately, vanilla and cinnamon were noticeable. And, the barrel is reusable, so I'm thinking of maybe making a big batch of cayenne hot sauce and aging it in there, to see fi it picks up some of the whiskey's sweetness and the barrel's smoke.

(10,129 posts)So, if I get the urge to do it again, I can always just buy another barrel from them.

(10,129 posts)I could just get another barrel to use for hot sauce... but I think the more batches you do in one, the longer it will take, since you're leaching the yummies out of it each time, and they're apparently finite.
Sekhmets Daughter
(7,515 posts)Use the first barrel for the hot sauce now, then buy a new one for you next batch of whiskey...
