(354 posts)It brought tears to my eyes. Her perfect little head and her Daddy's hand...it is hard to get better than this.
Thanks for sharing- it brought back a wealth of memories of my own children, now in their thirties. That feeling of awe and pure love-keep it always in your heart.

(4,076 posts)was that size, that was her favorite sleeping position. My husband would always get up with her around 4 or 5am, assume that position on the couch, and that is where I would find them when I got up an hour or two later. Almost every morning for a couple of years.
Congrats, WP. She is a real beauty. Hope mom is doing well.

(27,985 posts)There is one thing just a little better for me. I get to do it whenever I'm at work and I do bond with these little ones but in the end, I happily hand them off to their loving families. But I still get the opportunity to snuggle with babies on a regular basis. Thank you for reminding me that I love my calling.

(27,985 posts)Working night shift. When the parents need a night off, babies still need love. So, along with my medical duties, I get in some snuggle baby time. I may not always get my specified 15 minute break off the unit but snuggling a baby to sleep counts double as far as I'm concerned.
As a matter of fact, I'm just getting my coffee and will be heading to work at 6pm.

(57,936 posts)Be patient. Never, ever lose your patience (at least don't lose it more often than you have to).
When my first baby was small, a friend of mine who had raised five children advised me: "Remember. Whatever you give to your child, your child will give back to you."
My grown children are wonderful.
I'm very grateful for my friend's advice.

(27,985 posts)for mommies, daddies and babies. It's called Kangaroo Care and we utilize it in our NICU. You are actually demonstrating it with just a couple of modifications needed. Daddy's shirt comes off. Baby's wrap and clothes, everything but the diaper comes off. Press the two humans together just as you see them here, maybe with baby up a little closer to daddy's heart. Cover with blanket and sheer joy and love will abound. Works just as well with Mom, even better because of the potential for snack time.
It's well past time that Kangaroo Care moves out of the NICU and into new parent's homes. It is just as developmentally magnificent for newborns as for 28 weekers.
Magnificent picture Will.

(27,985 posts)I can't think of a single thing better for parents and newborns, well, besides breastfeeding. Speaking of which, I can't count the number of youngin's kangarooing with their fathers who try to go for a snack. The looks on both of their faces are priceless, absolutely priceless.
Edited to add: The coolest dad remark to his child was, "honey, those ones don't work. Wanna go to mommy?" He never missed a beat and I'll never forget that.

(5,637 posts)found a huge long term positive impact on fathers- fathers who had previously been non-involved with other offspring became attentive and bonded following KC with a subsequent newborn. Powerful. I have pictures of my son skin to skin in the hospital with both of his sons. Made me so proud!

(5,717 posts)just wait until she runs to you, throws her arms around you, and says, "I love you, Daddy!"
And if you think that's bad, wait until you send her off that first day of school.
And if you think that's bad, wait until you see her in a cap and gown.
And if you think THAT's bad, wait until you see her in a wedding dress - and have to walk her down the aisle!
And yet none of that will compare with the day she hands you your first grandchild to hold.
The best, and the hardest, as there are no words.
