A simple tax question .... No "official" income - do I have to file?

All my income last year was paid in cash for services I performed.

Do I or should I file.... The total amount was about $7,000.00. No dependents but myself.

Thanks for any advice!

Peace

if you are under 65 and income was less than $9,750

is that your only income?

as it is my only source of income. Unless you have a refund coming, I would not bother to file.

Also, you may have to pay self employment tax, which I think adds to your Social Security qualification.

It's weird, I know, but sometimes the normal deductions get you a refund even if you earned something. I'd give it a try.

The guy I work for pays me cash every two weeks... he doesn't take any deductions out.

I guess I should look into it.

Thanks.
