A better view but this one isn't mine.

(4,437 posts)I've been thinking of getting a snake for a long time but still not quite ready to make the commitment.

(72,300 posts)The Emerald has longer fangs.

(4,437 posts)lol Ever been bitten? If I do get a snake it's gonna have to be one I can handle without having to worry about it sinking it's fangs into my flesh.
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)After a bite I had a row of bleeding puncture marks.

(31,508 posts)but, I've got a bunch of "yard snakes" around the house. They'll be coming out of hibernation soon, so I have to be careful when I'm doing yardwork so I don't accidentally hurt any of them or my toad population.

(72,300 posts)It's beautiful but deadly.

(943 posts)Does it eat mice? Bunnies ?
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)I had so many snakes that I also had a tank of mice.
Some lizards eat very young mice in addition to crickets.
Sekhmets Daughter
(7,515 posts)had a friend who owned a snake...we 'snake sat' one week. It was delightful...it used to wrap itself around my torso and lay its head on my shoulder close to my neck....while I did chores around the house!
The ex wouldn't allow the kids to get one of their own...
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)To bad you had to snake sit to wear it around the house.
Sekhmets Daughter
(7,515 posts)She also explained she didn't know whether it was male or female! About 4.5 feet long...it would crawl right under my shirt, to lay along my skin, not even buttons kept it out! I remember that it was silken to the touch!
The ex could be a real plug sometimes!

(72,300 posts)@ youtube. The male spurs can easily be exposed.

Has a 6 foot willy
He took it out and showed to the girl next door
She thought it was a snake
And hit it with a rake
And that was only four foot four.

(30,947 posts)but when they got so big that rats were not big enough for them, and it was time for bunnies, I found them a home at Miami-Dade Community College hands-on classes for kids.

(72,300 posts)When they don't feel secure in your hands they squeeze ever harder.
Love the iridescent look of their skin after a fresh shed.

Lots of lizards, a few spiders, nothing 'hot' (poisonous).

(32,075 posts)That was probably the most unusual one I've had. I used to work at a lab that has a big herp group, so I got most of my reptile fix from them, without having the expenses and responsibilities of caring for them. I did have a Madagascar Giant Day Gecko that was given to me by one of the researchers, who was trying to breed it, but realized he had two males. I had that guy for several years, until he died of apparent old age.

(72,300 posts)The Leopard Gecko got him. It was stupid to keep them together.
Damn. He was so cute!

(55,476 posts)Funny how I can have nothing but fear an revulsion when it comes to scorpions and wasps, but snakes, it's like looking at pictures of puppies

(72,300 posts)Fortunately there are no scorpions in New York that I am aware of.
