(This was posted in the Gardening group but hasn't gotten much action; hoping Loungers might be able to assist...)
My mother is a HUGE fan of jasmine, but she's slowing down a lot and lives in assisted living so she doesn't have her own garden anymore. I want to send her some jasmine (or lilac, her other favorite, but I don't think lilac will thrive indoors -- please correct me if I'm wrong) for Mother's Day.
I have read that jasmine, aside from smelling wonderful, also is a good plant to encourage sleep - smells good, or is relaxing, or whatever it might be that promotes peaceful slumber.
Anyway - I'd like to send my mom an indoor jasmine plant (already potted), but the first place I saw one - White Flower Farm - is sold out. There are many retailers on Amazon, but I really don't have a clue how to determine the best product.
Anyone here knowledgeable about jasmine? Care to offer an opinion? Thanks!

(12,022 posts)and loved the scent. It's heavenly.
For some reason, I just couldn't keep mine going more than a year. It got some sort of bug infestation. But I visited one friend whose indoor jasmine plant had sent vines up all over the windows and she had to mount indoor trellises!

(34,105 posts)TopTropical. Some have had problems with their plants, mine have all be in great shape and the jasmine bloomed a month after I got it. There are hundreds of different kinds. Check them out.

(13,661 posts)I need to be able to buy one in a nice pot ... she can't transplant anything.
Do you remember what you got at TopTropical?

(34,105 posts)It might be too much if she is not able to pot because it will require pruning. The leaves are not the best on this particular plant but it is an ever bloomer and that is what I wanted. Here is it, back ordered right now but there are so many there is likely to be another type. http://toptropicals.com/cgi-bin/garden_catalog/cat.cgi?uid=JASMINUM_MYSORE
This came in a plastic bag with soil and a stick and netting to keep the leaved and stem in good shape. Not potted though, I don't think any of theirs come potted.
