It may have been only one of the originals, but there were no wheelchairs in sight...and it was a GREAT show.

I feel the same way about ALL old bands either touring or getting back together. I truly don't want to come accross as some nabob of negativity, but if bands don't look and can't play or sound like they did way back when, I'm not interested. The mere fact a band is playing "on paper" just doesn't do it for me. I prefer to remember them all by their sounds in their younger days.

this was not quite six years ago:

he's been steadily recording and touring with his bands (He toured with Allison Krause and with his Band of Joy and with Strange Sensations and is now doing dates with his band the Sensational Space Shifters) since then too.

prior to that show. Get the Celebration Day dvd/blu-ray/CD/whatever format you can use and be prepared to for awesome. They filmed the whole concert in HD and had some good sound guys on it and it's presented pretty straightforward from start to finish. (Unlike The Song Remains The Same that had numerous cuts and used songs from different nights and the records don;t match the movie in that some songs were left off)

I already have the blu-ray but I think I'm gonna order the LPs too so I have it the same as all my other Zep records.

The thing that hurts the most is that I was in 9th grade in Dallas when they played there but I didn't even know who they were then. I didn't discover the joy of Led Zep until late 1981 when I moved out of my parents home and left my religion to find out how much bullshit I'd been taught. One of the very first things that changed me forever was when my new friend and roommate said "Hey, you like Led Zeppelin?" and he proceeded to play me all their records and they've been my favorite band ever since. Up until then, just about the only music I was allowed to listen to was church music and the occasional country song on Hee-Haw.

Basically saying he was hesitant to do it because he knew there was no possible way they could ever live up to people's expectations. Basically, he didn't want to let people down. I can sympathize with that.

On the other hand, I think anyone going to see them would do so knowing ahead of time what they were getting. I would love to see them, the greatest rock band in history, and if they aren't kids neither am I.

I go to this as often as I can but I figured that his presence at the 25th Anniversary last year might make a wonderful little festival into a zoo. There are hints of amazing here though.

singers. He knows he can't hit those tenor high notes any more and sings them an octave lower as a high baritone. That's the mark of an artist rather than a wannabee rock star.

Since doubling is so popular having a younger backup singer echo you and hit the high while you go lower sometimes works pretty well. I actually love the rasp of age if the singer is, as you say, an artist.

so you can't really believe any of them. Though I tend to give more credence to the one who said a year or two ago that he didn't want to be a "rock star" any more. The evidence is abundant with the solo records he's been putting out. Band of Joy, Allison Krause, Strange Sensations, Sensational Space Shifters - it's all pretty different from the hammer of the gods stuff of his youth. HE's happy making the music that makes him happy and I don't begrudge him that one bit. Sure I would mortgage my house to see him with Jimmy and John Paul but I'm not counting on it happening. (I wish I had done it for the O2 arena show in 2007).

Planty is well known for fucking with reporters though. He loves saying shit that stirs up the fires of the faithful. lol, it's part of what makes him great.
