It's stupid and it is more boxing than martial arts. The "mixed" part means "no clue". talkingmime Apr 2013 #7

But I agree with you, we are not as civilized it seems.

old martial arts and boxing. Jiu jitsu's roots lie in judo, muay thai is an old sport, and boxing has been around forever.

My husband got into it in the '90s after starting with taekwondo.
Fighting sports have been around since the dawn of time.

What do think of women doing M.M.A. ? kids doing it ? I know I'm getting old and grumpy but a lot of this sems like blood sport toned down enough to be legal and a big step backward .

For awhile there were hundreds of martial arts studios in all the abandoned strip malls , they seem to have gone but all of this seems to have started when the economy got worse . Rome burning or modern entertainment ,I tend to over react but the "rape" culture seems to be in full swing and it's rape & pillage culture. The rebuttal to this all is "people are going to do it anyway so let them do it in public where it's safe "
Is there a happy balance where guys can be brutish lug heads drooling at bimbos in stiletto heels holding signs for round two

so the cheering can start for blood and choking again ? Why is peace and love considered wimpy ?

... I watched the title fight between Larry Holmes and Randall "Tex" Cobb in 1979. Cobb was
WAY out of his league and Larry Holmes didn't just BOX with him, he beat his face into a lump
of hamburger -- almost literally, he was so cut up and bleeding from so many places.
.
Howard Cosell was announcing the fight ringside and, after agonizing during the fight about
why the ref didn't call the fight -- BEGGING him to do so (I can now unquestionably say that
I've witnessed "brutal&quot , Cosell vowed never to announce a boxing match again (and he didn't).
.
Now, some people HATED Cosell and were happy about this, but I had liked him and his style.
.
.
.
Cobb seems to have survived this brutality without noticeable brain damage (so far), but with
the beating he took, he shouldn't have (Cobb is the biker//bounty hunter in "Raising Arizona".)
.
.
.
(edit to add) I've watched Kendo "fighting&quot ?) and enjoyed it, but those folks have proper
protective gear and it seems based more on stylistic skills rather than ACTUALLY harming
one's opponent.
