I finished the last of the Courvoisier, but I still have some V.S.O.P.

Brandy was really an acquired taste for me. At one point, I started to wonder if I would ever acquire it. I thought I was doing everything right; I even had a snifter and a warming kit.

Then I discovered I didn't like brandy warm. So now I drink it at room temperature.

Courvoisier is an excellent brand, well-worth its reputation...

ago, I used to go to a bar where the bartenders knew how to do it properly. But one night, there was a new bartender, and I watched in shock as he plunged the snifter (at least he got the glass right) into ice. I asked him what he was doing, and he explained that he was chilling the snifter. I politely explained that that was incorrect, and suggested that he seek instruction from the other bartenders.

Years later, I had a similar experience, when a bartender served my Cab-Sauv over ice. Shudder. .

People who have never visited the UK sneer at the legendary "room-temperature beer" they enjoy, not knowing that the 'room' in question is the beer cellar, from which the beer is hand-pumped up to the bar. So the beer is cool enough to be pleasant, but not so cold as to spoil the flavor.

British beer is actually quite good...

The best sleep I get is between 2-4AM and noon. Given that we are in the final phases of construction (new addition) I have been short on sleep for over six months. Some of the crews get here at 6AM, but I am not about to discourage them from working even that early.

Monday, two trim crews (shelving and finish), a concrete crew, the earth moving guy, and a sod guy are all supposed to show up between 8 and 9 AM with accompanying concrete truck and a dumpster. It will be insane, but the house will be that much closer to finished.

...Wednesday that I could not do then because my computer froze up at the end of the day and didn’t get back to normal until Thursday morning, and a whole bunch more from yesterday that I didn’t get done because I ran out of mental energy. I’ve been seeing a whole bunch of teenagers I’ve never seen before because the one location of ours that they usually go to is doing only sick visits, and my office is doing only well visits.

We are supposed to ask the teens about tobacco, drugs, alcohol and sex. If they have never seen me before, why the hell would they feel comfortable answering those questions. Even the kids I know well are probably not telling me the truth. Wednesday, I had 2 14 yr old girls with past suicidal gestures, an 18 yr old who said he has 5 sexual partners, and an 11 yr old who has had 14 office visits with 10 different providers in 8 months. A 16 yr old who weighs almost 300 pounds with past abnormal labs whose mother refuses to recheck any lab work because getting the blood drawn last time “was a nightmare.” Several older teens who come by themselves, who never know family history, which I am supposed to update for every visit every time.

I am quite certain that the insurance companies never look at anything in the family history, they just look to see if the boxes are checked. I fantasize about putting in something like, “mother is a 3-legged unicorn” to see if anyone would notice.

Give me newborns any time.

Hoisting a Mike’s Hard Lemonade, which usually makes me drowsy.

It's a little soul-killing, the medical provider's version of drudgery. I feel very fortunate to have an EHR system that allows me to chart accurately so quickly, I can usually finish and sign-off on a note right after the patient visit, and before the next one.

I rarely have more than one or two charts open by the end of the day. But things have been so slammed lately, that at one point last week, I had twelve charts needing to be signed off.

I seldom sleep more than 2-3 hours at a time. Chronic back pain has been my constant companion since 2002 when I had a spinal fusion that didn't work out too well. No alcohol allowed here, or indica (which I dearly loved) due to pain management urine testing every month. This is my life, so I'm on DU all hours of the day.

Now it is super bad. I take Ambien, Tylenol PM without the Tylenol part, Xanax, and pot. Now when I go to my dispensary I tell them in an extremely serious voice, "This IS medicinal. I must sleep. I need the strongest Indica you have (in the 90% range)". I can't drink anymore or I get a 5-7 day migraine. Vaping has definitely helped when I wake up after 4 hours and have to take all of the above again. No fun! I miss my dog who died two months ago and slept in bed with me. She kept me sane through tRump. Now it is beyond sucky.
