We bought an extra nice bottle of champagne for November 2016, and as the night wore on it sat unopened in the fridge, and we turned to Advil and hot tea. That bottle sat in the refrigerator for a year, reminding us of that horrible night, so we finally opened and drank it.

This time, I'm taking no chances. Don't want to put the kibosh on this by pre-dedicating a special bottle. I might make a mocktail, or heat up the teapot again.

It may be a while before enough votes are counted to see who won the presidency, and which party won the senate.

In my state (MI), we can't start counting absentee ballots until 11/3. If they could be counted as they arrive, results would be available sooner.

Not to mention the odds of us having a declared winner that day sans a record-setting blow-out may be slim.

I think I might be better served from a beta-blocker or some valium and a lot of doggy hugs/comfort.

Best case scenario, I will be having the sparkling wine I still having chilling since the last election. Regardless, I've already asked for November 3rd and 4th off from work, because either way, I'm probably going to be hung-over. I don't drink a lot, so it doesn't take much to feel hungover the next day. I usually have a watch party, but not this year, so I sure hope DU doesn't crash again.

'harder' drinking (which I rarely do) won't happen until there are some real results, which I expect to take a while, days? weeks?

I've got a bottle of mead that was well aged when I bought it 45 years ago, plus a bottle of Irish Mist stashed away. Every decade or so I've taken a sip of the Irish Mist on New Year's Eve, but I may break it out in November! If I feel really special, I might even open that bottle of mead.
