A surprise for my wife ,We're on the list at the maternity ward a Golden retriever puppy.

After swimming at the quarry yesterday the boys and I stopped. To ask these Mennonite dairy farmers if they had a litter of pups yet. It is not a puppy mill and there dogs are well taken care of. They did just have a litter and oh my the pups are three days old. The boys and I were keeping this hush hush as it is a surprise for their mom.

Mother golden wanted a good ear scratch. And father golden wanted to show us his rope toy to play. She had a litter of seven we’re number eight on list. So if anyone declines were in for a male pup. She said do not worry if we do not have . Her brother who lives one hour away has three females and three litters a year if all their pups go. They do not have papers I do not care so they’re cheaper than a breeder.

June seventh is our 34th wedding anniversary. So by July will hopefully have a anchor baby. For my dear wife and our twelve year old Golden retriever Mr big paws. I’m the third wheel in my wife and mr big paws relationship he loves us all. He has it bad for my wife so sweet and innocent.

It is the best I can do $400 compared to a breeder that asks $2000. And we found mr big paws with these people.

Many a poor little pup whose been abandoned, abused, or rejected by a breeder, could use a loving home like yours.
Just saying.

Adopt, don't shop.

I will never understand people who don't adopt.

Hell, I was disappointed when the Obamas didn't adopt a dog after they said they would. Yeah, I know... allergies.

Friends got their Sheltie from one, he’s a great dog and very healthy. They knew the rep of Amish breeders and felt comfortable with the farm and the way the family treated their dogs.

We get quite a few Amish breeding dogs, and they are always a mess.

Both of my dogs came from known parental linage... Good health on all the dogs. No papers and they were excellent companions. Then again thats just me YMMV...

I really can't understand why anyone would breed a perfectly good golden retriever with a poodle.

Milo brings me his blankie when he greets me at the door. He worships our little Lhasa-Poo, who is approximately 1/7 his size. She's his Alpha. They race around his backyard until exhausted.

Anyway, as to why someone would cross-breed: health. Too many pure breds have been ruined by people overbreeding, and that's a tragic fact. Hip dysplasia now runs in some breeds, seizures in others. Our first dog was a pure bred Sheltie: sweet by nature, but neurotic and prone to illness. He suffered terribly from skin allergies, ended up on steroids forever, and died at only 8 years.

Needs differ. We got our little dog from a re-homer at 11 months, and paid their fees, which included her having been spayed already. At 10 yo she is still is healthy, sturdy, active, and smart. I love the mellowness of retrievers, but they're too big for our situation.

We need a "house dog" so had to choose something small (but not a "toy" ) . We bought a house on nearly half an acre, but because we are smack in coyote country it is pointless to fence any of it for a dog -- they would take her home for an hors d'ouvre.

Our car had gotten stolen, and her parents are guard dogs at a used tire and rim shop we went to to replace them. They happened to have a litter. She was 300 bucks, and is the most beautiful animal it’s been my pleasure to call a friend. Seriously, it’s like getting a expensive sports car and I’ve had a papered pet quality German Shepard before. Nothing like her.

Lots of work

That was the last litter for the parents—-also not a puppy mill, just no papers, Eastern European German Shepard's, originally from Mexico. Her brothers and sisters are in Southern California and Mexico. My husband goes and visits her parents, or he DID until covid. We run into K9 cops once in a while at the field we take her too, who also love the look of our beautiful dog and give us training tips.

I love her lineage.

I wish you and your family all the joy of a new puppy, and a new friend. Nothing like it.

I loved mine and even though he was a purebred dog with papers, I did have him neutered.
We had nine years together and if not for cancer taking him down, we would have had a lot longer.
Honestly, I looked and looked at shelter after shelter, rescue after rescue. Sweetest, smartest dog I ever had. (From a backyard breeder and the sire and dam lived in their house as family members, not in cages. The puppies were well socialized and housebreaking was accomplished in 2 days.) Fifty dollars. Not kidding.
