Crappy food you like anyway...

... and don't try to talk me out of it.

I'll start:

Chef Boyardee Spaghetti
Kraft Mac and Cheese
Pop Tarts

Fess up, pilgrims, what horrible, unhealthy, and yummy food do you love, and are not one bit "guilty" about it?

Sun Chips aren't TOO junky afa 'chips' go. Also some of the garden harvest line, I think it's called ... they're like pea-based instead of corn ... a couple of those aren't bad but they have HEAVY flavorings on them to make 'em taste any good. They seem healthier though.

Overall I'm more of a plain chips person most of the time ... plain chips, perhaps with dips (or nacho cheese lol) is preferred over the powdered seasonings on the chips. Once in a great while I'll crave Spicy Nacho Doritos in small quantities (hopefully) or good Kettle Cooked Potato Chips like Toms or Cape Cod with Barbeque seasoning.

“Pavlov’s Dog Needs Only One Iteration”

“I hate pizza,” I said, and she smiled
as she held up a wedge to my mouth.
A bite, the cheese and sauce blending
on my tongue; crunch of crust as I chew, then swallow.

A few bites more, and then with mischief in her eyes
she presses her lips to my startled mouth.
Quick flicker of tongue, as she steals a crumb,
a taste cooler than any liquid to wash down
the commingled flavors.

God, I love pizza.

Although they are getting wider distribution they are not national.
Tastykakes are still WAY better than Hostess or Little Debbie - they use real ingredients (chocolate, butter etc) but some of us locals who grew up on them say the quality has gone downhill a bit since they were bought out. The icing on the krimpets and cupcakes used to be soft and creamy and is now hard and crumbly. My favorite Chocolate Kreamies are still just as wonderful.

Pagac (pagaci) like a Slavic 'pizza'. Dough filled with potato or cabbage filling. Baked, then brushed with browned butter. I may have had some with prunes (leqvar or prune butter). That one is tricky.

My fiancee is a dancer/gymnast and eats exceptionally well so I have to plan my binges carefully. Once, she came home earlier than expected and I had a plate of Tostinos pepperoni pizza rolls in front of me. Unbelievably, she grabbed one and bit into it before I could warn her that they were still really hot. The sauce dripped out of the remnant in her hand and spilled onto her chest burning her.

Several years later, she still has the scar. I refer to it as "My Brand."

Incidentally, I'm no longer allowed to bring them into our home. Fortunately, I have a microwave oven in my office.

At least they're simple ... whole wheat, oil, salt ... not too bad.

Another fave along those lines are 'Stoned Wheat Thins' from Red Oval Farms (imported from Canada) ... comes in sky blue and red printed, rustic looking box? Just had about 10 of 'em 20 mins ago. So simple and crunchy and tasty. Also really good with a bit of cheese.

At the grocery store, they'll have like maybe 10 boxes of regular and low-sodium, low on the shelves ... and they're not that cheap ...

They are a really nice, simple, wholesome (seeming) cracker that's good enough to eat alone in a pinch, but perfect for topping with some good cheese.

Speaking of good crusty bread ... man I miss real SF Sourdough ... just can't get it in AZ. Once it's been in plastic ... it's ruined. And nobody here seems to really know how to make it or if they do I dunno where they are.

discovered them. You can find good crusty bread in some of the specialty markets or Whole Foods here, but the best place to get it is Eataly over in the Prudential Center. That is the real thing! So delicious! That is one thing I miss about NYC, there were great artisan bread bakers all over the city so it was easy to find good bread. You still kind of have to search for it here and even WF doesn't have much of a variety. I love having kind of a smorgasbord/antipasto/charcuterie board w/ cheeses, meats, olives, vegetables, spreads, fruit, etc. I could have that for dinner almost every night. The bread is key though!

62. Hrrrm ... how about my top 10 guilty pleasures ... Headed by ... Jack in the Box Tacos ...
Wed Feb 21, 2018, 08:03 PM
Feb 2018

1) Hrrmm ... worst for me is probably Jack's Taco's. I get 2, well done with extra lettuce and sauce. Probably get 'em close to 1X a week going back a LONG time as I've always had one close to home or right on route to work.

They're rarely cooked as hot & crisp as I like even though I order 'em well done ... I think they're taught to observe their timer no matter what, but their tacos really need like 15 secs more in the oil than the timer says. Monster Tacos need like 25 extra secs. I know cause I worked there in High School.

They must be eaten IMMEDIATELY however, like as you pull out the drivethru you should be munching otherwise the extra lettuce & sauce chills them out FAST.

2) Come to think of it, Jack's Chicken Strips are THE BEST chicken strips of any FF joint, even Chick-Fil-A & Raising Canes IMHO (though they lack Canes Sauce which rocks). Their ranch & barbeque sauces are delish for dipping. Basically though I love Chicken Strips and dipping sauces.

3) I'm also with the OP on Kraft Mac & Cheese though when I make it I add sliced grilled Spicy Italian Sausage & sauteed bell pepper and onion. Kinda like a Pizza in a Bowl. ORRRRR I do the same with Betty Crocker 3-Cheese Potato Casserole (it's like Au Gratin).

4) Stouffers Meat Lovers Frozen Lasagna ... YUUUUUUUMMMM!!!

5) Olive Garden Soup, Salad, Breadsticks with the Zuppa Toscano (one with sausage, potato, kale ... though they're all at least decent soups).

6) Good Gelato from a shop

7) Super crispy/very tightly-rolled/fresh/hot pork & veggie-filled Egg Rolls from a good Thai/Vietnamese/Cambodian joint, with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce.

8) Freaking SMASH FRIES ...

9) Onion Rings from either The Habit Burger or Culvers

10) Hot/Fresh KFC Fries (big chunks of potato with delicious coating), with a side of Gravy for Dipping.

Leaving aside the carb issue for the moment, they are served in a thick, heavy mixture of garlic, mayonnaise and olive oil with a bit of chili oil added to spice them up a little. Pure delightful death.

I just had some for dinner two nights ago in one of my favorite places to have them (next to the Cathedral in Barcelona for any suicide-minded travelers). Poffertjes- best way to describe these bad boys is like a mini pancake that looks like a potato chip that has bubbled, smothered with butter and powdered sugar. They're Dutch, but sometimes I find them (box of mix) at World Market or frozen at Ingles (in the South).

Rubenkraut on a hard roll with butter- it's refined sugar beet syrup from Germany, on the lines of sorghum or molasses. It's what many Europeans use in place of maple syrup, which can be somewhat cost-prohibitive.

Steak tartar, seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic...raw twice-ground lean steak, served on fried rye bread. I get terrible heartburn from this one, but it's SO worth it!

Patatje Oorlog - Dutch/Flemish pomme frites, similar to American "steak fries", smothered in mayo, curry ketchup and minced onions...have your Tums ready!

Any gummies flavored with black currants. Haribo sells them all by themselves in Europe, and in certain "mixed bags" in the U.S.

Mon Cheri by Ferrero (Italy) - a chocolate-covered cherry (except it's a high-grade chocolate and a special Piedmont cherry that has been soaked in cognac). You might have seen other liqueur-filled chocolates (Polish delis, etc.), but this one is Europe's hands-down favorite. Can be found on Amazon and certain H-Mart Korean supermarkets. Don't have them shipped during the summer months, they'll melt & all the good stuff'll leak out!

Occasionally, I really, really need a Big Mac.
I hide my head in shame but just love that special sauce dripping down my hand.

Also White Castle cheeseburgers (somebody mentioned them upthread). Many years ago there used to be a 24hr. White Castle in Rahway, NJ. We'd pull in with the munchies at 1am, and four of us would order 35-40 burgers (they were small).

I like them not just for the convenience and price, I like the taste of them. Not the ones sold individually, but the ones that come eight or more to a bag with a price that works out to less than 50 cents apiece.

.....my reaction is like, "So? What's your point?"

To be fair, I don't eat like Donald Trump. I might have fast food once a week, if that.

But Big Macs are delicious. Fries are delicious. KFC is delicious.

I would probably die a quick death if I overdid fast food, but please don't try to shame me out of enjoying it every once in a while because it's not going to work.

Same thing happens to me with soda (although I've switched to zero calorie, which I'm sure there are lots of other issues, but screw you). Every time someone goes on a long self-righteous speech about how they used to drink soda but they quit it and now only drink water--screw you. Soda tastes good. Water is boring.

Another is Kraft Spaghetti Dinner in a box. Had the pasta, sauce and a little tin of grated cheese. Lived on it before marriage.
