Papantonio: Neocon Crazies Blind To Minimum Wage Truths

For the last 6 years, our elected officials have doled out money to the wealthy elite in the form of bailouts and tax breaks. Their hope was that this money would then stimulate the economy by trickling down to the rest of the country. But the one common sense method that they never tried was raising the minimum wage for America’s working class. Ring of Fire’s Mike Papantonio talks to Richard Eskow from the Campaign for America’s future about how raising the minimum wage would help stimulate our economy.

* If the minimum wage had kept up with inflation it would be $16 an hour.
* Most people who work for minimum wage work for companies with over 100 employees.
* Many of those companies are mega-corporations such as Walmart that don't want to pay a living wage.
* %80 of people working for minimum wage are adults, not teenagers and part-time college students.
* The majority are women. Many have children and are living below the poverty line even when they get full-time hours.
* Even when families have two adult full-time workers in the home making minimum wage it is still not enough.
* Increasing the minimum wage would improve our economy.
