2. There is a lot missing from this story.

It's a scary video to watch. I just keep wondering where are that child's parents. I can't imagine this happening with any of my children and they were pretty wild. But, in public they had to stay within eye sight and one of mine wasn't let loose in public for weeks because she liked to try and hide.

4. The person who makes the catch is watching the kid for a while before leaving and coming back

Note that at the beginning, "quick thinking adult" is watching the kid, and I'm not sure whether the adult says something to the kid before proceeding to a store and then rapidly turning around. It's not clear why the adult turns around so fast, unless the kid was making some noise.

3. Great save. But what amazes me is the complete indifference

of other people walking around and riding the escalator. And where were the child's parents? Even after he fell, it didn't look like anyone frantically rushing up to the kid.

and a person helping him. So it might be dangerous to abandon a blind person on an escalator as well, but it doesn't look like the helper saw it.

below the kid don't even notice.

Even after the kid fell, they were none the wiser....

Quick thinking by the passerby, and a damn good catch!

in my opinion. So title is misleading. Maybe, "potentially deadly fall"

10. You have to wonder where this kids's parent(s) was (were)!

On edit: Maybe that was the child's parent. The man is on a cell phone, then walks into the store, turns around and heads back for the kid. Maybe that was his kid, and his phone conversation prevented him from noticing that he had wandered off.

The video leaves a lot of important details out or ambiguous.

11. You can bet the design of the escalator just became an issue....

Also, don't American escalators go the same as road traffic? This one is going up on the left instead of the right.
