Estates to keep them in line. No one making seven figure salaries wants real change because they are doing just fine.

do there bidding, spread the think tank messages and catapult the propaganda.

3. blah blah blah & nothing improves significantly again and again

and the gap between the havemores and the havenots keeps skyrocketing year after year

4. The answer is:

Neo-Feudalism!

If you extrapolate America blowing its load of national wealth on defense, (offense) and most of what's left get's sucked into the one-percent's Vacuum of Privilege, then you see what's left go into the battalions and agencies of the Militant Guardians of Interior Freedoms, (conveniently growing in correlation to wealth gap), there is one strong potential outcome.

Most of us will be working for someone simply for room and board. Pay will become obsolete because the actual owners of a country are under no obligation to do anything but keep their Serfs alive and nourished enough to work hard.

Ah, there are people finding themselves in this position already.
