It is so very interesting to re-visit actual footage and reporting circa 1970, first earth day. I certain know what the times were like then...

And when you compare/contrast to anything making it on to conventional "reporting", doesn't the local picture of society (Miami, or otherwise) pale, in comparison? I don't see any fat and sloppy people in all that footage. I hear better articulation of language. Why, I'd almost be able to convince myself that this footage is our imaged future society, but look at us now compared to then.

Looking at our ability to follow through 43 years on fills me with shame.

I went back to look closer at the physical features of people in the video and your observation is quite right -- the average American citizen is carrying a lot more around the waistline these days than those folks were.

I would've been in 6th grade in '71 -- sure seemed like cleaner and simpler times.

It is a great shame (a crime really) that we haven't made it a priority to take good care of our environment. This fills me with shame as well.
