This link shows photos of these two at the marathon and up close.... Hard for me to conclude from these shots that these are the same people even though the side burns, hair color is similar.... Something is different with the face and nose shapes.. I'm not an expert.... But just a thought....

Homeland Security measures when the young men who committed these horrible acts were born in Russia, immigrated here and may have committed these acts for some reason related to Chechnya and Russia's problems in controlling its own security.

The hubris of RT is pretty amazing on this.

“I do think we need more cameras,” Rep. Peter King (R-New York) told MSNBC after Monday’s attacks. “We have to stay ahead of the terrorists and I do know in New York, the Manhattan Security Initiative, which is based on cameras, the outstanding work that results from that. So yes, I do favor more cameras. They're a great law enforcement device. And again, it keeps us ahead of the terrorists, who are constantly trying to kill us.”

"But in a study conducted last year by the Senate’s bipartisan Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, lawmakers found that those fusion centers have been more or less unhelpful in assisting with terrorism probes.

The Department of Homeland Security’s work with state and local fusion centers, the subcommittee wrote, “has not produced useful intelligence to support federal counterterrorism efforts.” Instead, they added, so-called “intelligence” shared between facilities consisted of tidbits of shoddy quality that was often outdated and “sometimes endangering [to] citizen‘s civil liberties and Privacy Act protections.”

“More often than not,” the panel added, information collected and shared at DHS fusion centers was “unrelated to terrorism.”

walked past the cameras with and without backpacks suggested they were not trained as terrorists -- at least not for terrorist acts in the US.

That seemed to indicate to me that they amateurs pretending to know what they were doing. Maybe they were just being defiant or thought of themselves as martyrs, but I am more inclined to think they watched a few too many movies and weren't thinking about cameras.

The fusion centers probably do prevent some crimes, but they are awfully expensive to maintain.

You can't have cameras everywhere. Do the cameras just push crime into places that are out of the view of the camera lenses?

But still, RT has some nerve. Russia has a lot of problems with crime on its own turf.

But I don't pretend to get all the back story to our mistrust of each other's countries... It would be more of a win win if all our money wasn't' going into cameras, because you and most of us also know that the crimes are not happening on the cameras....
