Thom Hartmann: Does Torture Nullify American Exceptionalism?

Mike Papantonio, Ring of Fire Radio, joins Thom Hartmann. A new bipartisan report makes startling conclusions about the Bush Administration's role in detainee torture programs. Will we ever hold those responsible for one of the most shameful periods in our history accountable for their crimes?

and I didnt see anything about 'American Exceptionalism'

In fact, it was quite the opposite - it pretty much said, stay out of wars or alliances that dont concern us, and if we do get in a war, dont pay for it with debt

but what would he know, about what 'America really stands for'

all it ever is and was

the term is used with the pre-supposition that it ever really existed outside of an agenda that represents a tiny percent of the country

it's not even traditionally republican or conservative

We are not and should not be exceptional just...cuz we say we are. That's hubris on top of arrogance on top of a bloated sense of entitlement. I can't stand that term. We are not better than any other nation (what does that even mean?) and we are not exempt from international law, or we shouldn't be, especially now. We set no example for what a great nation should be. Not when we start elective wars and tortire people.
