1. Why Did the Police Engage Her In the First Place?

The video only picks up after the police were already there. I'd like to know what prompted them to start the engagement with her.

She's right, she's allow to use swear words. Isn't funny how the cops all of a sudden have the vocabulary of a lawyer when they're ready to describe a situation so they can justify an arrest? "Profane" is not a term I'd bet that officer uses in his regular vocabulary. Clearly, we're teaching our law enforcement officers how describe situations in terms that allow them justify arrests when they really are not warranted.

Of course, it's never a good idea to argue with the police - unless you're trying to get arrested as a means of protest. In this case, I think the prosecutor would be wise to drop the charges. I'd have been calling the ACLU immediately after I got bailed out if I were her.

Why is it that when someone speaks out and is within her rights to do so, it is asking to be arrested! She was upset about her rights being infringed upon and that is what every American needs to be! As the famous bumper sticker states, ' Your silence will not protect you!'

against Gov. Scott Walker for making it illegal to hold a piece of paper 11x17 with writing on it... You will be ticketed, arrested and lead away in handcuffs....

Beginning to see more and more of these kind of arrests. Its almost like we have lost the right to freedom of speech. Some have stated she was probably arrested for "disorderly conduct" or for "disturbing the Peace".. which seems to be a catch all category. Lets face it, the cops can arrest you for anything these days.. we really have no rights any more.

I didn't realize you were Asian.

The point of my post was just illustrating the slow slip into totalitarianism. Had nothing to do with ethnicity. I could have chosen any other number of totalitarian states, but since North Korea has been in the news recently, that's the one that came to mind.

In short, this woman's free speech was suppressed, and I was sarcastically wondering if we lived in North Korea.

Sorry, no offense intended.

On edit: I was trying to agree and support your post, though very clumsily, I suppose.

the fact that we live in a police state? No matter which state you live in, these uniformed "judges" decide (according to their world view) whether or not you are breaking the law?
That is why we actually have laws codified, to prevent this morality police bullshit. I imagine that Barney Fife here thought he had a firebrand liberal whose opinions he was obligated to protect good folks from. I suspect (maybe not since she is an educated, employed citizen) that she would be (hopefully this recording will prevent it) successfully prosecuted. Most cops have no problem lying, especially to cover their asses. He will claim that she was causing a disturbance and disrupting the peace. Actually, his "peace" from being a neo-con, was the only thing disturbed.
When we are forced (as many of us are daily) to fear our government, especially from our 1st amendment rights (money is free speech though) can we have a free society? The experiment has failed miserably.
Instead of being punished as this cop should be, the professor will have to use her free (money) speech to possibly have this case dismissed. The American Taliban is in charge.

That's all it was. She was at a university--a place for discourse, reasoning, and debate--and the cops were in the same space. That was a mismatch.
