(20,776 posts)Condemn the entire population of North Korea. There are families living there that have nothing to do with its politics. I am sure people there are scared to say anything..and will not for survival. I have seen films about people sneaking into North Korea, to do a secret (and dangerous) documentary on North Korea. They interviewed some people who were afraid to speak out.. it was very unsettling. I feel for those people just as I feel for All Koreans who are in a bad why. Maybe its my Korean blood talking to me... But no, I don't agree ALL OF NK is evil.

(518 posts)I don't blame the people who are starving obviously. If anything, I blame the world for allowing these types of human rights violations to continue.

(20,776 posts)I think it can lead to racists comments in regards to all Asians..
I'm not sure about that. If someone wants to make racist statements, I doubt a title will give them some type of protection. Maybe if the title was North Koreans are Evil, but that isn't what's up there.

(22,000 posts)The people have been victimized for over half a century. When someone sneezes the wrong way and they put three generations of the family in a prison camp because some neighbor has snitched on them it is a crime against humanity.
I think the average person on DU probably doesn't know squat about North Korea (the guy in the Youtube video seemed to be a rambling idiot). I admit before I came to Korea I didn't know much, but the more I have learned the more I feel sorry for the people there.
The documentaries are a good start for anyone wanting to learn about North Korea. I've posted lists of books and videos but they get sunk by some of the truly stupid shit threads posted on DU. When people on here buck up and actually show they care, it will mean they actually took the time to learn something.
Sorry...

(429 posts)There is nothing going on in North Korea that isn't going on in America. Besides, when have we ever told the truth about these dictators. Americans are the most ill-informed propagandized people on the planet.

(6,342 posts)I dont see North Korea as a massive threat as the western media makes it out to be. I think that the regime are primarily banging the war drums to extract money, get sanctions lifted, and seek legitimacy. It's been a cycle of this over and over again for years. I dont think they are going to nuke anyone. If they do, it's pretty much game over. At that point, if we dont take care of them, China will. I wouldnt dismiss them, but Im not going to lose sleep over them.
But...their government is insane. Completely out of control and insane. It is almost cult-like. This government is no question one of (if not the) worst regimes in the world. The population lives in fear and held in a twilight zone time warp. Horrific prison camps exist with political prisoners that Amnesty International estimates in the hundreds of thousands of people. People are tortured. People are starving. The economy is dead. And the entire country is in complete isolation.

(27,137 posts)While evil can and has been used archaically as a description of bad luck or poor health or bad investments, it's primary use is and has always been as a human description for the state (or lack thereof), of another individual's empathy, morals and/or humanity.
None of which can be accurately used to describe a political form such as with the concept of a nation-state. Particularly since these forms are made up of many individuals -- thus making the term improper in its use here. Not unless one wishes to paint everyone in North Korea as the same as their demented leader, Kim Jong Un.
The videos title ''North Korea Is Evil'' seems to me to be a broad-brush which describes a whole nation of people who are themselves primarily the victims here, and who have been living for generations under the iron rule of an autocratic cult-leadership family. The title of this video appears to reduce all North Koreans to accomplices of their ruler's megalomania.
Using such a title as this would almost be like saying: ''All Americans Are Evil Because They Love Killing Innocent Babies With Drones.''
- And I, for one, know this is not true.
North Korea as a state is evil. The state imprisons people, and murders people without a trial. It is the concentration camps all over again.

(518 posts)I don't think North Koreans are evil, I want them to have basic human rights. The state has done these things to their people. It's almost like you've turned this on its head, as if somehow I'm pushing propaganda by saying North Korea uses propaganda and other tactics to obscure its massive human rights violations.
