WATCH: New Pro-Gun Control PSA Puts The Second Amendment In Sharp Perspective

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, the gun control debate has been quickly moved to the margins. With President Obama, members of Congress and the national media fully focused on the attack and its aftermath, it’s easy to forget how much the gun issue was set to dominate the news narrative this week.

The justifiable shift in priorities will likely pull attention away from this powerful new PSA ad, released by the non-profit organization States United To Prevent Gun Violence, but for anyone invested in the fight over new gun laws, it is a must-see.

Without giving too much away, the 30-second ad uses a terrifying workplace shooting scenario to make the case for updating the country’s “antiquated” gun laws. While not explicitly denouncing the Second Amendment, the group is making the point that a lot has changed since the founders declared that Americans have a “right to bear arms.” In half a minute, the PSA compellingly sums up what many pro-gun control advocates have been arguing in favor of for decades.

... or affecting any other person's rights, so I do not see the correlation.

Apples and oranges.

Americans have a 'right to life' - if the 2nd amendment is the cause that interferes with a person 'right to life' and personal security then there should be expanded regulations regarding gun safety.

... I think it would be better if you limited your free speech rights to quill and ink, delivered by the Post Office. I shall sit on my porch awaiting your reply.

11. Get rid of the 2nd Amendment-totally antiquated

It was originally to arm the Militias which we used instead of a standing army. T. Jefferson was deadset against a standing army in times of peace. We used our militias to defeat the Brits in the War of 1812. And the South used them to control the slaves.

Today we have a standing army, national guard and cops all over the place, plus drones and missiles. Militias are cute idea but not necessary anymore.

the 1st and 6th amendments not the same as 'the people' of the 2nd amendment?

2nd: the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

1st: the right of the people peaceably to assemble,

6th: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated,

Your comment to get rid of the 2nd amendment is more honest than saying it only refers to the militia.

And militias are not needed anymore. Totally antiquated. Like muskets.

16. The 1st Amendment doesn't say anything about militias. But the 2nd Amendment does.

Why do you find it necessary to include that organization for the former, but ignore it entirely for the latter? Did you get this argument from the NRA's pamphlet "How To Twist & Subvert The Constitution For Fun & Profit"?

the 2nd amendment does indeed refer to 'the people' the same as it does in the first and suggest the best solution is to repeal the amendment. You apparently aren't one of them.

18. The 2nd Amendment first refers to militias. Honest people will admit that's what it's about.

Will you be honest and admit this as well?

And free speech can certainly be regulated for the public good, and has been. Why can't firearms?

20. When those regulations are intended to be ineffective due to RW meddling?

What we have now - because of lobbying pressure from gun manufacturers and the most extreme RW gun weirdos - is regulating to the lowest common denominator. And here's some news for you: It has failed. So, no. Firearms aren't really regulated in America when someone can go down the street and cross an imaginary line to get nearly any type of weapon they want. Legally.
