(1,648 posts)Seems like a staunch protector of government excess would NOT favor lavish amounts of cash being spent on a single citizens death...y'know, stealing bread and milk from those truly suffering to give a state funeral...is it just me or is this sounding very wacky?

(68 posts)The Thatcher foundation is paying some, but it is normal for Prime Ministers (and Presidents for that matter) to have a publicly funded funeral. Her's is bigger than most (since Churchill) because she was the longest serving, first female prime minister. She also left an enduring legacy, which did change the centre ground of UK politics, even after 13 years of Labour rule.
