(11,252 posts)This guy seems phony to me. Combat is what breaks down a mans nerves not the V. A. Many Veterans complicate their own claims by claiming too many illnesses at once. Put in a claim for one thing at a time and you will have better luck. Use a service officer from the V.F.W, or D.V.A. not an advocate that works for the V.A.
Almost everyone I know that uses the V.A. is thankful and thinks the care is great. No rec from me on this one.

(3,557 posts)The VA has been great to me for the roughly 5 years I've been seeking treatment for my PTSD issues. I feel that the staff cares about me and my fellow veterans and my claims process has been very easy and straight forward. Both times I submitted a claim it was approved quickly (in about 3 months) and painlessly.
However, I had several combat awards and it was easy to connect the dots between my PTSD and my military service. I went from having stellar OERs and being a stud in the Army to being a guy who was in trouble constantly at work and who could hardly hold a job or a marriage together.
However, that being said, it is a large and bloated organization. As with any large organization, some people get lost in the cracks.
I have never known any veteran that had an overall negative view of the VA. Some things are better than other, but for the most part it is a great organization. The people who take care of and interact with me are all great and I believe that they really care about helping me.

(29 posts)I just finished golfing with a Vietnam Vet, whom I had never met before, and he was so dissatisfied with the VA. Another true golfing friend of mine has shared his antipathy toward the VA. I guess I will be on the lookout for Vets who feel as you and your acquaintances do about the VA.

(3,557 posts)I'd credit much of the quality of care that I feel I receive as a direct result of the struggle that many Vietnam guys faced when they first entered the system.
For the sake of the majority of vets out there, I hope I'm not an anomaly.
