There's proper conspiracies and stupid conspiracies.

Proper conspiracies are like LIBOR manipulation, price fixing, covering up fuckups. They're not really sexy, not unless spreadsheets turn you on. Price fixing is a criminal conspiracy. Mafia and organized crime shenanigans, that sort of thing. Watergate was a conspiracy.

The problem is when people take paranoid fantasies and try to built them up to having the same weight and plausibility as the conventional stuff. Alex Jones talking about Obama planning the marathon bombing to promote the police state? Cut me a fucking break. Why not talk about the real conspiracy to gin up the Iraq war? That was a real and proper plan to hoodwink the American public with bullshit and lies to get a war going. Trying to pass it off as an honest mistake by people who only had our best interests at heart is a goddamn fucking lie.
