Thom Hartmann: While all eyes were on DOMA...the Monsanto Protection Act was signed

While all eyes were on the Supreme Court this week, the corrosive influence of money in politics dealt our country another major blow. On Tuesday - President Obama signed into law H.R 933 - a continuing resolution appropriations bill that had been approved by Congress - both the House and the Senate - just days earlier. And while the bill sounds fairly innocuous by itself - buried 78 pages into it was a provision that protects GMO and biotech companies like Monsanto from nearly all forms of judicial oversight. Despite calls from more than 250,000 Americans to veto the bill - President Obama went ahead and signed it anyway - giving giant agribusiness companies like Monsanto free reign to develop - plant and sell all sorts of genetically modified crops - despite the wide range of health and safety concerns surrounding them. But wait - there's more.....

Start screaming about it now to cut it off ASAP. Don't let it become permanent.

TOP TEN REASONS (EXCUSES) why President Obama had to sign that bill: (pick one, or more if needed)

10) John Boehner hates common-sense solutions -- this makes no sense. So there's that.

09) Mitch McConnell's out to get me! It's his fault for crippling my bi-partisanship efforts.

08) I was just trying to be the best 80s ''moderate'' Republican I said I was.

07) American People didn't hold my feet close enough to the fire and ''make him veto it.''

06) Those dastardly Republicans threatened to shutdown government.

05) There are too many Republican appointees (But I did it for bi-partisanship's sake!).

04) For all the amber waves of grain I could ever want. Later.

03) I support family farmers who just lurve them some Monsatan's seeds, ferts, and poisons.

02) The corn cereal I eat made me genetically-inclined to sign it!

...and the number one reason Obama had to sign that Monsatan's Protection Bill:

01) Bo ate my veto.

He is only protecting his family and himself.
Just remember JFK and Executive Order 11111.
