2. This nonsense is why I don't attend the Baptist church like I used to.

In today's Easter service, the pastor couldn't go through the sermon without saying gay marriage was sinful and evil. My wife told me she felt getting up and leaving twice. We're heterosexual just as an FYI. LOL.

Another thing I don't like about going to church is the continual claim that America is degressing and in it's dark days.

The pastor keeps asking why I attend infrequently. And next time I'm going to say the end-of-times, America-being-in-its darkest-days rhetoric is getting irritating. No time period is perfect.

I go to church mostly because my 80 year-old mother, who is still very active and sings in the church choir, likes to see me there. The church keeps her going and keeps her active. So I go to support her with that.

But since I became a Liberal, I've come to disagree with some of the rhetoric and have been going alot less. I'm sure some other Christians feel the same way.

And they have abandoned their core and saying crazy things. I left the group some years for their lack of preaching and teaching about God and Jesus and started jumping into politics. They should lose their no tax status. No wonder Jimmy Carter is leaving them also, they are better coming a cult. When they talk about gays and how sinful they judge them to be, I don't think God made errors, and this is what I hear from them when they talk about others. I think I can reasonably say they need to get back to being Christians, telling the world about Jesus and sit their leader down and tell him he needs to live as Jesus taught, to live everybody. What is his excuse when he says dumb statements, is he going to blame this on him being gay?

the Rapture. They think that the Seven Year Tribulation is at hand. And that they will be raptured right before Satan sets up the One World Government. This is wrong thinking as there has not been a leader that is seen as solving all the problems of the entire world. Obama is seen as doing nothing to solve their perceived problems. They support the Problem: RW Fascists and Corporatist who are keeping the church doors open now. The Church lost most of its middle class as they can not afford to GIVE when the collection plate comes around. And let us remember members as the RW platform has put everybody, out on their own; the opposite of the command of Christ to go out in to the World and bring the people into His Church. They have gotten derailed because they chose not to adhere to the Separation of Church and State taught by Moses (Old Testament) and Paul (New Testament).

Nuts. I speak frequently with a SBC deacon and the propaganda he reveals to me is following your post. They need to allow God to do his work for surely we don't know enough. Isn't it interesting how they read about the "last days" and forget Jesus taught us to love one another.

...stemming from the ease that one can make the error when typing hastily.

In this context, if I recall correctly, it's a small jab at right-wing nutjobs' breathless obsession with gays.

My husband's family are SB, and my father-in-law told us that we're damning our souls to hell for supporting this abomination. Then I got a text at midnight from my brother-in-law telling me he wanted to sell the boat that we share, because he doesn't want to have any ties to us. Wow! Happy Easter. I'm heartbroken, but I won't relent on my beliefs. I'm a Evangelical Lutheran, and that doesn't sit well with my FIL. I don't know what to do. Help!
