Related: About this forumGun Confiscation - A Baseless Registry Fear
"The Senate Judiciary Committee approved Democratic-sponsored measures Tuesday to expand the nation's gun background check system and a Justice Department program that funds school security plans.
The 18-member committee approved the background check bill on a party-line vote of 10 to 8; the school security bill passed on a broader margin of 14 to 4."*
Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) made his opinions on why he's opposed to gun background checks and a registry- it'll be a way for the government to take away people's guns. Does that have any backing? Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz, and John Iadarola (Host, TYT University) discuss.

(51 posts)...do people like Grassley and the NRA types think gun confiscation is going to happen. I doubt it is possible logistically.

(64 posts)Many of those weapons were never even returned.
Would the government get all guns? Hell no...
Would they get some? Yeah...

The agreement calls for the city to post a notice on its website that explains how gun owners can claim their firearms.
Gun owners must sign an affidavit claiming ownership of a gun but don't need to present written proof, such as a sales receipt or serial number. A background check also is required to certify that someone claiming a gun can legally possess a firearm.
The city won't be liable if a dispute arises over the ownership of a returned gun. Authorities can dispose of any guns that go unclaimed after two years.

(11,064 posts)Fortunately, we have DUers who regularly make it known that banning all firearms is exactly what they want.
They are obviously in the minority, but they are still very passionate about that irrational belief. The seek to influence the timid into believing that they have some special power to confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens or will have that special power at some time in the near future.
It's never going to happen.
Most firearm owning Democrats don't fear confiscation, including those who post on DU, because they know that the authoritarian gun-control advocates will never be able to accomplish that. They know that no matter how many times the gun-controllers (or people-controller wannabes) say "NRA," "NRA talking points," or "Fuck the NRA," it's not going to happen.
All they are doing is driving themselves nuts.
