So, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), you think you’re a playah? Not so fast, buddy … Sitting on the questioning panel in the third hearing on immigration since the current bill from the “Gang of Eight” was released, Cruz was pretty full of himself. Smugness seems to emanate from him, doesn’t it?

When Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, was being questioned, Cruz apparently believed that he had a chance to score with his Tea Party worshippers. Seeing an opportunity, he pounced:

“My office received the text of this bill at 2:25 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17 — five days ago. In the five days since then, when you have obviously been heavily focused on matters such as the Boston bombing … have you had the opportunity to read all 844 pages of the bill?”

You can tell from his expectant, self-satisfied expression that he expected Secretary Napolitano to make some kind of excuse for not reading it. So it’s very satisfying when she answers that she has, indeed, read the bill. All of the bill. You can almost read Cruz’s mind as he processes that answer. You just know that he had a nasty rebuke ready to lay on her, how she wasn’t doing her job, blah, blah, blah. But, unlike Cruz and his Republican brethren, she does her job. Cruz pauses for a beat, defeated, before replying:

“Then that must have been a busy weekend.”

Cruz is a fool all on his own. He really didn't need the Secretary's help.
